Guest guest
yes this is a thing that Doctors can tell you more about there are some few people that have allergic reactions to the vaccine mostly a reaction to Eggs which are used to make the serum. however it is still a good idea for any one with risks to get the shot and also have the one time pneumonia vaccine also. all it takes is a few minutes and you increase your resistance to exposure. it just needs one little kid with the sniffles to bring suffering , misery and sometimes death to people with weakened immune systems such as diabetics , senior citizens and chronic illness patients. If you live alone fine but if you take even one trip to the grocery store or Doctors office you are at risk for the flu simply put you never know who has it until they give it to you. This is an inexpensive and simple preventative measure that any one can benefit from if you are going to have family members visit at the least once this winter it is a good idea to get it now and have fewer worries (besides that uncle with all the stale old stories about his prize hog at the 1954 county fair) Midway Island Resident 1969-1972 Cannon School Alumni The R@ ICQ # 40168351 About FluShots > > > Greetings: In a recent message from a list member, he recommended that

Guest guest
Just for information purposes the flu shot is administered once a year and the pneumonia vaccine is every five years. Some people think it is a one time thing, but it is a good idea to repeat it every five years to make sure you are covered by any changes in resistance and it does eventually wear off. Guest guest
Good point, Fern. In just the last three days I've read three reports on flu and pneumonia vaccines. One said that pneumonia vaccines lasted a lifetime. Another recommended getting a pneumonia vaccine every ten years. The third said every few years. Glad to hear we can attach a real lower number to the interval. Five years sounds good for the pneumonia vaccine. We all need to remember that many strains of pneumonia are now resistant to anti-biotics. Flu and pneumonia kill an unbelievable number of people every year in the USA. Many doctors are worried about the possibility for a really bad flu year this winter. Flu has already broken out in many areas this summer, not the usual state of affairs, and a very bad sign for the winter. As more and more of our citizens travel by ground and air transportation, literally around the world and then back home, we can expect to see different strains of the flu that rarely hit the USA, as well as new pneumonia bacteria. It is true that side-effects of the vaccine may affect some people. This is something you should talk about with your doctor. The benefits of having the vaccine will outweigh the side-effects for most of us. Ray in Virginia Ray
Guest guest
Hi, I just got a flu shot on Friday. My arm still hurts and I've been in a flare since the shot. I get them (shots) every year and have never had a bad reation. I get the flu shot because I'm in a special ed kindergarten class and your always dealing with kids with running noses and alot worse! I have to use up all my sick days as it is, with my own health problems and then factoring in a child who gets sick. This last year they docked my pay for 5 months because of sick days. I figure the flu shot is a good thing for me. Kathleen in California P.S. Welcome to all of our new listers. I look forward to seeing your posts! Guest guest
Hi Ray, I also get the pneuno....(oh forget trying to spell it.) shot. I think I go back in another 9 years to get another, as it lasts 10 years. I do it for the same reasons, and also because I've had the dreaded sickness twice all ready. Chronic bronchitis ect. and still a smoker. I'm working on that one. Kathleen in California
