One thing I know is that it has been said that the 16oz bottles are better

able to withstand pressures building up, but that was with true Grolsch

bottles. There are a lot of bottles out on the market these days with the

bail tops, and I doubt they are engineered for pressurized contents. I

have a few different ones in my house that I use for other things.

Thanks , Do you think it would be all right if I bottled them

and let them sit for a day or two and then refrigerate in the ikea

bottles, maybe they wont explode.I'm going to also look for a suntea

jar for the kids to use. Right now I just have the KT sitting in the

container I brewed it in with a glass lid w/ rubber stopper. I just

ladle out what I need. Thanks for all the wonderful info, nne

I think in general a couple of days should be safe. You can also try

letting off the pressure (opening the stoppers) each day just to make sure,

until you get some confidence about it.

Hi, I saw these bottles today. They looked kind of nice. I didn't get

any, though. I found them too expensive and I'm not sure if I find

them strong enough. How much do they weigh?

As a precaution place your bottles in a large plastic tub and in a

cool place (like the fridge). Ideal temperastures would be 40-55F (5-

11C) You could use a " test bottle " . Bottle a test bottle of the same

size and ferment except in plastic. Allow the same air space.

Kombucha IMO, should be filled to the top and not allow any air space

(contrary to beer and wine) The plastic will allow for expansion and

hardness that you can feel and better judge the pressure in the glass

bottles.

At the Associated (a supermarket) one block away from me, I can get a

4 pack of those Grolsch bottles for 8 dollars, not including tax. I

consider this a bargain, as it already comes with a fully fermented

and quite tasty grain drink. I'm sure you could find them cheaper

outside of New York City too.

Thanks, I am right out of NYC so I know its cheaper and dont mind

the beer. i was just at Ikea so I thought why not try the IkeA

bottles. But all the talk about exploding bottles is making me real

nervous. The bottles I picked up are 600gr. in weight and hold 32oz.

I can always find another use for them if I dont use them for KT. My

boys love the green tea earl grey mix 5-1 per gal. Thanks , nne
