Guest guest
- I like Natural Conception Regulation - I've never heard that term. Thank you for always pointing out how it includes ecological breastfeeding - in the groups I serve there is so much need for better understanding of eco-bf. The Catholic Nursing Mothers League new website is getting ready to go up - our new executive director is really working hard to get things moving. We've got the website re-tooled and all the legal documents filed. We're working on a disclaimer for our site and then I will start reviewing the documents to start local groups. EBF will be a centerpiece of our work - we just re-wrote our mission and vision statements to make it more explicit that we promote EBF practices. Eventually we hope to offer teaching materials specifically on it - of course we'll be leaning on you and Sheila for help on that. Pam PilchCatholic Nursing Mothers Leaguehttp://www.catholicbreastfeeding.org Dear Amy, Les, Mark, and all, I think it was Dr. Jozef Roetzer who coined the phrase Natural Conception Regulation. (Rose and Fuller, correct me if I'm mistaken.) In favor of that phrase is the fact that what we are teaching is material ordered toward recognizing the time when conception can occur or has occurred. " Birth control " and " birth regulation " in the unhappy context of the 21st century also include abortion. Also in favor of Natural Conception Regulation is that it provides a better fit for ecological breastfeeding, the most natural of all processes for the spacing of conceptions. On the downside, the acronym NCR has long stood for the business that started as the National Cash Register company, and it also stands for the National Catholic Reporter and the National Catholic Register. Much more important than the name is the content. God made woman in such a way that the frequent suckling (according to the simple Seven Standards) normally postpones the return of her fertility for an average of 14 to 15 months. Will this be taught to doctors, medical students, and other students? God made woman in such a way that her temperature rises after ovulation and provides an excellent indication of post-ovulation infertility (see the Doering study at our website). It also provides the single best indicator of gestational age. Will this be taught to doctors, medical students, and other students? Will doctors and medical students be taught that women can observe the God-given changes in the cervix during the fertile time? And if not, why not? Should this common knowledge be systematically avoided? Contraceptive behaviors and sex outside of marriage are intrinsically dishonest, to use the language of Humanae Vitae. Will that sort of language be used? In short, there are all sorts of questions that need to be clarified when talking about an effort to educate others outside the contemporary NFP ghetto.
