Guest guest
the web site for Vita4life is: www.vita4life.net (please note it is dot NET) I would recommend getting the " Multi-Plus " formula Because it is higher in Iron and lower in B-12. It is more suitable for the DSer. The other formula is better suited for the proximal Rnyer. To compare the two formulas you can go to: http://www.vita4life.net/dosage.html The price is $54.95 per can which is a 30 day supply. This price includes taxes and shipping. If you order 2 cans you will get a $2 off per can price break. If you order 3 or more cans you will receive a $3 price cut per can. (I always order a 6 month supply. When I open my last can I reorder) What do I think of it??? lol, well apparently I like it cuz I keep reordering it. For me it is the easiest way to take my vitamins. They come packaged 12 pills per little packet. Each morning I open a package and take 4 capsules...sometime in the after noon I take 4 more, then before I go to bed I take the last 4. By doing this I get my multi, my calcium and my iron. I don't have to think. I just swallow and get on with my day. (Note: the very best way to take it would be 3 capsules, 4X a day) Because the Calcium is Citrate it isn't as " picky " about being taken with food (which you should take calcium carbonate WITH food for the stomach acid) and Citrate and Iron doesn't fight each other as bad as carbonate and Iron (which you can't take calcium carbonate and Iron at the same time. Note: if your having problems with iron def. I wouldn't even combine the Citrate and Iron.) I think vita4life works really well. It is absorbed well. It works for me. But it is PRICEY. If a person would struggle to afford taking vita4life I just wouldn't advise taking it. There are cheaper ways to suppliment. I have been taking Vita4life since I was 4 months post-op. I could not handle taking it the first 4 months because they would make me sick. Hugs Jo
Guest guest
Hi Marla...I only skim read all the info so I could have missed something important...but this is some of the key things I picked up on. Time released: Time released doesn't usually work as well for us when we are post DS. You said you take " one " in morning and " one " at night: The Dosage is: Two Tablets.... That would mean, At 500 mg. calcium per " serving " , you would need to 2 tablets, 3 times a day to get your min. 1500 mg. of calcium per day. Unless you planned to get your calcium else where in addition to your multi-vitamin. Large pills. As a NEW post op this may give you problems. Very often those first couple months you may not be able to handle large pills. Some folks use chewables in those beginning months. Just the fact that they are time released I'd shy away from them. But do keep taking them until surgery. As a general rule when your looking for " new " vitamins or calcium it can be helpful to try the water test. Place the pill in a glass of warm water for 30 min. After that,If it isn't well on it's way to being desolved it may not be the best choice. More than likely you'll just be pooping pills instead of absorbing them. Guest guest
Hi Kerry, I take Supradyn and have to also let it go flat. I struggle with the taste sometimes but I have no problems with the fizz (I'm newly banded though, and have had no fill in yet so don't know what it will be like after that). Amway also makes a liquid vitamin call Active8 which has a MUCH MUCH more pleasant taste than supradyn, but I don't think the vitamin content is as high. Maybe get your dietician to look into it for you? I will be asking my dietician when I see her again next monday. Guest guest
Hiya Kerry It is good to know you are not alone isn't it? I guess it is hard, I find the only time I am `heard' is when I am online. Trying to explain to family and friends that I am not hungry or that I cannot eat that is difficult because they just don't or cant appreciate what I can and cant eat – even the concept of that changing daily. Vitamins are tough… I have berocca or supradyn and it will take me virtually all morning to sip it, funnily enough I can have mineral or soda water and not get that bloated feeling. I don't know why this happens. You might need to look for a children's chewable vitamin as an option, up the dose so you are getting enough for adult requirements. I am going to buy more vitamins tonight, so I am going to look for a chewable vitamin, I will let you know what comes of it. Nx
Guest guest
Hi Kerry Seeing as you have been banded for so long you might not need to have to worry about taking vitamins. I stopped taking vitamins a year after I was banded and every three months along with my diabetes check I have blood tests for iron and vitamin deficiencies and don't have any problems show up. I just make sure I am eating healthy getting protein, vegies and calcium into me each day and that seems to do the trick. If I don't eat vegies I make sure I have a vegie juice. I'll reply to your personal email before the week is out, I've been heaps busy starting a new job but will tell all soon. Leanne
Guest guest
Hi Rob Well thank goodness I don't have to take them, I have enough problems trying to get in the various medication tablets that I have to take. Plus being on a pension the saving of not having to buy vitamins is a blessing. I never felt any different when I was on or off them so I thought it was just a waste of money me taking them and my tests have proven that in my case. I'll just continue having my quarterly tests to make sure everything is OK, I'm bulk billed for the tests so it's not like the money I'm saving on spending on vitamins is going on tests. I'm sure it was you who a long time ago recommended a Homeart substitute for the Bullett blender. Well anyway Homeart have them currently selling for $39.99 supposedly marked down from $79.99 so today a friend has bought one for me as an early Christmas present, can't wait to use it.
