Guest guest
Good morning all,I just received my monthly subscription of Worst Pills and thismonths warning is for Lovastatin. This is just an FYI.Following is a brief synopsis of the article:"The FDA has required the manufacturer of the cholesterol loweringstatin product lovastatin (MEVACOR) to update information in itsprofessional product label about drug interactions that can increasethe risk of severe muscle damage called rhabdomyolysis.Drug-induced muscle injury, or rhabdomyolysis, is a known adverseeffect of all cholesterol-lowering statin drugs. It is usuallyaccompanied by pain, tenderness, and weakness in the affectedmuscles. The most important consequences of rhabdomyolysis, however, are not on the muscles themselves. As the muscle cells break down, they release substances that can cause injury to the kidneys. Thedamage is sometimes permanent, but even when it is reversibletreatment often requires temporary kidney dialysis (mechanicalfiltering of the blood). These drugs/products also may react with lovastatin and you shouldconsult your Doctor. Biaxin, Sandimmune, Neoral, Cordarone andgrapefruit."End of SynopsisOf course that is one reason, we have periodic blood tests for liverfunction.
