Hi Haven,

DOE is the Dept of Education.

I will send you an email.

I won being able to take the Nat'l Standard Test instead of being put on Portfolio Assessment. For our situation that means they have to really teach him. I hope.

They will now be implimenting the social skills pragmatics group that their own people said he needed the last 2 years that they wouldn't do. They even admitted that they had other children in the school that needed it and they still wouldn't form a group.

And, they are going to pay for Jeter ( www.eedge.org ) to do a Reading Comprehension for Autism evaluation and determine his learning style. There is such a huge gap in his cognitive abilities and what he scores and they use that as a way to say he needs to be in CBI (self contained w/a functional curriculum). He has a normal IQ (nonverbal) and is extremely smart with the computer, reading and spelling and phonics, metorology, map skills, and trains. Language is his hardest area, but he memorizes other languages.

I am having CIRCUIT come back in because they told me the other day to write down the rules (of the 44 in the student handbook) that he can't follow and they will put that in the IEP. Well, there are plenty rules in there he would not break, but if another student set him up he wouldn't know it was wrong. CIRCUIT will come fix it. One more thing I don't have to worry about.

I need to go over the verbal expression goals in Frameworks to add what I want in his IEP. They are part of Frameworks, but they are not in Benchmark testing so they usually don't bother with them in the IEP.

I will send you an email.

April,What is the DOE? Is that the director of education or something else? You have given me much better advice. could you e-mail me off-list? It wasn't on his report card --I know that means nothing. they made up IEP progress report grades. They gave mastery grades fro objectives that weren't even covered, and the did it all year long. Can you contact me off-list?Yes, in recent years, the districts in Texas have spent 58,000,000 dollars in legal fees fighting special ed parents. Can you imagine the programs we could have if they had spent that on our children instead? What was it you won? I won't just accept empty promises ever again.
