Sorry I didn’t see your post before the 27th Michele!

I know Dr. well. She is very caring and good but is strictly

traditional medicine (medication, speech, ABA, etc.) and does not believe in

the alternative approaches (gluten free diet, vitamins, etc.). If this is

not what you were after, I’m sorry you made the trip.

Subject: Still need a little advice

I know a month or so ago I emailed the group asking advice

about my 7 year old son and where to take him for help. He has an

appointment with Dr. Rodgers in Lubbock on August 27th. Well, now

that it is almost here, I am really questioning if this is where I should take

him. I live south of San Angelo and Lubbock is about 5 hours

away. Ft. Worth is about the same. Austin is a little

closer. I am willing to take him wherever the best place is for

him. I just don't know if that is Thoughtful House or the Child Study

Center in Ft. Worth.

He is high functioning, previously diagnosed through the

Mansfield school district at the age of 3 1/2 with PDD-NOS. He was

dismissed from special ed in the spring of his pre-k year under the premise

that the school didn't think the diagnosis fit and didn't want him going into

kinder with a diagnosis. He was orginally diagosed by ECI with sensory

processing disorder, sensory seeking. He had some behavioral issues

last year in first grade, but also had an old school teacher who was

unwilling to make any accomodations for him, such as even reminding him an

extra time to pack up his homework or to give him any visual cues instead of

just verbal cues. He now hates school and is not excited about going

back tomorrow.

I just know know what to do. Out here in the San

Angelo area, Rodgers is recommended a lot. I will have to go up

there the afternoon before, stay in a hotel room and probably bring him back

again as the paperwork says she will only spend an hour with him on the 27th. I

am making a big effort to get him there. I just want to make sure that

this is where I should be bringing him...
