Guest guest
My son has been on nasal for 2 months now. I have noticed so many wonderful gains in languange (spontaneous words daily, imitating new sounds) strength with blowing/sucking and even screamed so loud it hurt my ears!! Imitation skills, memory recall, play skills (using legos and blocks, more interest in age appropiate toys and games as well as reading and writing for fun) focus (will stay on task doing a work sheet without constant prompts), can stay in the classroom for 50 minutes (before nasal longest was 15 minutes) sensory needs decreased (needed breaks to jump on trampoline, be massaged, roll bolster on him, now needs almost no breaks). The first week he was hyper so I went to every other day dosing. Then increased to daily and this was a smooth transition. In the last 3 weeks, there has been a shift in his behavior. He is stimming, runs through the alphabet in sign language as a stim. He also will stare off for a few seconds. He is on a roller coaster, he will be calm and content, then all of a sudden is on a hyper rampage, will be defiant when told to stop something inappropiate, is not willing to wait (ie, at the store while I read product labels) is determined to have it his way, ie, he wants to take a toy to school, I try to take it and set it a side, meltdown. Just seeing a lot of stubborn, determined behavior. He is also seeking sensory (proprioceptive) and will tackle me to wrestle and get the desired input. If I tell him no, it is a struggle to get him to listen. I know of course to follow through and be patient, he seems to be becoming more aware of the fact that he has choices and an opinion. It is just so very tiring and frustrating, and he is not yet able to verbally communicate his opinion so it is expressed physically and there is also a lot of whining and fussing. I have noticed an increase in hyper behavior and have decided to go back to the every other day schedule, hoping that if he is less hyper/stimmy he will be more tolerant to other's opinion's and direction. I would love to hear any input, ideas on the defiant behavior, and if anyone else is seeing these behaviors, if this is to be expected, and how you are handling the behaviors.
