Does it seem like tics?

Taurine helped my son with tics.

What do you feel this is related to? What therapies have changed lately?

Hi there,

We've also seen this type of thing. We've changed nothing lately. Son just had a positive strep test but long before this we used to see tics off and on. I have wondered if this could be a contributory factor in my son's autism. Maybe a latent strep infection. It showed up in a stool test some time ago and now the positive throat culture but no strep throat type symptoms .. no soreness etc.

When it started, it was very mild. Almost like she has a sore throat

and she was swallowing phlem. It started after a cough.

It went away for a while and it returned at around the time we

started SCD. Still pretty mild.

We started MB12 shots for about 7 weeks now. The swallowing got much

worse over the last month.

Thus I'm not sure exactly what is causing it.

If you get a posative strep and you see symptoms of tics, they can be related

(and often

are). Get a PANDAS test. This is an antibody to STREP that often causes Tics

and OCD.

Strep is a bacteria, so you'll probably need some type of antibiotic like

Bicillin, but I would

get them by IM injection so you can avoid doing damage to the gut.

I strongly suggest jumping on this asap. This is not something to avoid. The

faster you

address it the easier it is to reverse. This issues is typically autoimmune and

you don't

want the body attacking the brain like it typically is with PANDAS / TICS-OCD.

Hi Stan,

Thanks for this. We seem to have a lot of issues going on at the moment. My son had the strep imbalance in his stool test and now a positive throat culture for strep. He got the IM shot of antibiotic but is nowhere near back to baseline. Also found him to have bladder spasms recently and he saw a urologist who gave him a med for this. Pain seems to be gone but the OCD and severe stimmy behavior remains as well as severe regression. I feel like we've watching him slip away once again .. just when he was making progress. We had a PANDAS panel run w/ Immunosciences and are awaiting results. Everything seemed to happen at once so it's been hard peeling back the layers. I thought the antibiotic would help bring him back to baseline but so far it has not. Am waiting for an appointment with a doc who deals with PANDAS alot to hopefully help us through this. Thx again,

ann

Typically oral antibiotics are bad for our kids. There are some that are safer

and tend to

not effect the gut flora but most do in one way or another. I strongly suggest

using IM

shots for antibiotics. They bypass the gut.

Keep us updated on the test results.

Hi Stan,

Thanks for this. Would a shot of antibiotic produce the same kind of fungal problems an oral one would? We have lots of Nystatin here but I"ve been afraid to add this as there is so much happening right now. He has bladder spasms and was just put on a med by a urologist for this. More testing on Wednesday with ultrasound and KUB .. but just got an email from a relative saying her son got juveneille diabetes from strep that was undetected. So now we're worried about that too ... Ugh ..

Re: Weird stims. Has anyone else seen this?

Also, stims could easily be from intestinal dysbiosis or a viral infection, so hopefully you are going after those thing as well with your testing. If you are on an oral antibiotic I would add probiotics and in general you should consider a fungal strategy. I've mentioned fungal strategies several times over the past couple of days of posts.Good luck.- Stan

There is some evidence of viruses being involved in diabetes, but also chronic

fungal

overgrowth as well.

It's not the most common outcome, so I wouldn't stress over it... I would just

address it.

I'm not a big Nystatin fan. More times than any, it doesn't seem to work well

IMO. I prefer

Diflucan or Amphotericin B.

That said, Nystatin seems to be one of the most benign antifungal meds. I

wouldn't be

afraid to use it.

It's important to have a fungal strategy, especially when trying to fight off

Strep (which is a

bacteria) or viruses which seem to tougher to kill off when there is a bacterial

or fungal

overgrowth.
