A interesting observation

I got to the point where I could start some additional Scobies a

couple of weeks ago. Found a couple of ceramic bowls and small glass

containers. I added a cup of started and a cup of sweet to each and

a quarter of the mother Scobie. I had some sweet tea left over from

topping off my continuous brewing and decided to add it the starters.

(That was before I read V's late note that KT should be

added). Anyway the new Scobies in the glass containers had grown as

I expected. When I removed the cover from the ceramic bowls the

Scobies were about 4 time thicker than those in the glass containers

and there was very little liquid in the bottom of the bowl. The

surface area of the bowls is two to two and a half time larger than

that of the glass containers. The original depth of liquid was about

half that of the glass containers. Some of the books and articles

I've read state that surface area to depth of liquid is important. Interesting.
