Guest guest
I have always lifted weights at whatever speed came naturally to me, though usually with a 2-3 second lift and an eccentric the same as or slower. Lately I've been reading that lifting very quickly will cause me to tap into the fast twitch muscle fibres more. As I understood it, when lifting it is the slow twitch (ST) fibres that are recruited first, then the fast twitch (FT) type IIa and then the FT type IIb in that order. The implication of what I have been told is that the speed at which I lift has a significant effect on which muscle fibres are used. I've searched the archive for any previous posts on this topic but I have not found anything. Would any supertraining subscribers be in a position to comment? Thank you in advance.
