Okay, as long as I'm throwing out theories, sometimes I wonder about

the prevalance of depression and ADD in our country. Do people in

less wealthy parts of the world experience the same kinds of problems

to the same degree? If you're not sure where your next meal is coming

from, does your system have the luxury of being bothered by sounds?

Are Americans so health obsessed and self-absorbed that we create and

perpetuate our own syndromes?

Now don't get mad at me, I'm playing devil's advocate, not trying to

make anyone look bad. Today I was working with a guy from the former

Soviet Union and I couldn't explain to him that I can only work about

3 hours before I need to sleep because of my fibro/chronic fatigue

stuff. It seemed so ludicrous to me. Maybe it's my stereotype of

Russians...I can see them being depressed, but they'd probably never

admit to it, they'd just stoically carry on.

Consider the hierarchy of needs thing. If a person is well fed, safe,

and has money, does that person have the " luxury " of being mentally

unstable or physically impaired? How about the idea that Americans

tend to be a little self-absorbed? IMO that is because of wealth

which creates the opportunity to address issues that the rest of the

world can't because they're struggling to survive.

Hi RockyPandora

I liked reading that; it is probably correct IMO, how many third world

country people wont eat near someone else for fear of 4S? I cant imagine it

personally, so it could be well be the society we live in that causes the 4S

and that it is created through knowledge and experience, just like depression

and other psychological illnesses are.

If you don’t know it can’t hurt you? Is that correct? I mean an ideal

childhood doesn’t mean its perfect because you are living in a society that has

a broad mix so then there is judgment, analysis and from that could comes

depression, 4S and others..

Yes, if our expectations weren't so high...living the American Dream,

as opposed to eating again tomorrow, maybe we would be happier with

less. Though frankly you couldn't pay me to be poor!
