It's not the kind of drug you take for a day or two to see if it helps; it needs to build up in your system over a period of weeks. It makes perfect sense that an antidepressant would decrease the hypersensitivities in the central nervous system that cause a person to overreact in negative ways. Imipramine is also commonly prescribed for childhood nighttime bedwetting, and sometimes for ADHD. Very interesting idea that it might help SSSS. So, points I'd like to make: This is not a drug targeted at auditory sensitivity. All of us probably have a wiring/chemistry problem that causes us to respond very strongly to certain sounds, and any drug that tries to balance out the central nervous system chemicals can have a variety of effects, positive and negative. These drugs can be very helpful in many situations for reasons that doctors do not fully understand. The purpose of this list is to share information about SSSS and provide support for each other in our common difficulty. Most listservs have stated rules about avoiding controversial topics such as politics and religion, etc. because they tend to divide rather than unite/support the members. I'd suggest we try to respect those boundaries, and I'd place views on the merits of psychotropic medications in the same category -- highly personal, better not to run the risk of alienating others on the list by stating one's view. > Jess
Guest guest
My thoughts exactly. I dare say that my more or less anti-psychotropic view of health and recovery is every bit as valid as the mainstream view that there must be pill for all physical, mental, and spiritual ailments.
