What good news, Shan. We were missing your wise and entertaining words.

Speaking of positive words, I feel that way about " diet " . It seems so

" something I have tried and failed at too many times " . Holding time does seem

better also. I went through a holding time in June and early July, then

suddenly, doing nothing differently, shed 8 pounds in a little over a week.

What a marvelous feeling.

Hope confidence & " holding time " (plateau)

I mentioned a way back that I was weight stuck - this was my second

period of 4 weeks static. Was ill during June so w/o exercise nearly

as much it was a " holding time. "

I used my Pagan philosophy of darklight - the harvest has to have a

time when the earth is at rest in winter, the moon goes dark during

the monthly cycle, a woman goes inward during her blood time when

she is least likely to fertilise etc etc So all processes need their

dark times and the idea of constant progress is a cruel lie.

Watched you all celebrating 4 July and politely stayed away as an

Englishwoman has no part in that though it was nice to see you all

being up and fun.

Well I hung in there! Body was going flop tighten flop tighten and

getting smaller so it wasn't like nothing was happening.

Got the strength back and felt SURE I was strong again and thought

right you! I've been patient for weeks now and you're going to MOVE -

started swimming at 7.30am never gone early in my LIFE.

SUDDENLY - WHEEEEEEE!!!!!! losing A POUND A DAY!!!!!

During the ill weeks I went up 3 pounds so that went and still it's

going down ... Couldn't believe it I never did this before! I mean

WOW! All perfectly healthy, good energy, eating plenty of good

stuff, no loose skin. My KNUCKLES have appeared! I have the first

hint of a WAIST - tried wearing a big leather belt type of thing I

used to wear years ago.

So just wanted to send hope to anyone in a holding time that it DOES

start moving again.

Am interrested in the language we use esp as I'm planning my own

weight programme with online chatroom support. I don't

like " plateau " it feels heavy, stuck. So prefer " holding time " feels

more positive.

And for a long time now I avoid " losing weight " as it unnerves me,

makes me feel I don't want to " lose " anything. So I " shed " weight,

feels so strong and definite.

You are all such an inspiration and i am so thankful for each and every one of

you and your stories, experiences. Thank you so much for being here.

I am slowly shifting to healthier eating choices and even eating a healthy

breakfast....

I am back riding my stationary bike and have gone swimming coz of the heat

wave we have had of late....i jogged in the water in the deep end for 20 minutes

a day. So it all sneaked up on me when i wasn't looking.

I love evolving....

Evolving is a good word too. Sort of like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon.

Another good word is metamorphosis.

Again on the temperature, I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and we feel

sorry for ourselves when the temperature gets above 90 F.(32 C). We have not

had a " hard freeze " here, below 29 F (-1.6 C) in over 8 years. The lowest I can

remember for the past 20 years is 9 F (-13 c) back in 1989 or 1990. We have

plants outside like bouganvilla and hibiscus that can survive a frost but not a

hard freeze that we expect to lose each year, but which have survived into the

ninth season. These, BTW, all survived hurricane Katrina

while large oaks and, especially, pines did not. Even where the storm surge

destroyed large buildings and ancient trees, there are crepe myrtles coming back

strongly from the roots, tiny bushes already blooming, only a foot or so high.

I have tiny sweet gums coming up along the root lines of former shade trees.

Nature is amazing!

I don't like the word " diet " either. I think it should be used in its

orginal definition, " what one eats " , rather than to mean, " to lose

weight " . Dieting is often such a losing proprosition anyway. When

diet is referred to as what one does to lose weight, it's a tempoary

situation and, of course, weight loss needs permanent changes and

habits.

Shan, in England, don't they say " slimming " to mean losing weight or

instead of " dieting " ?

Hi Shan :)

it is good to hear from you. I'm glad things are turning around for you

weight wise and in your head. I think the head part is 99.9% of the battle!

Don't worry about the 4th stuff :) I'm glad that our countries have put

things aside and that we are friends again.

that sounds like a " second spring " , which is what I wish for us all... a

rebirth and renewal of our minds and bodies. Thanks for the reminder that

even letting go of the old things is sad [the oaks and pines] but that there

is another day and new things can come and grow in their place.

maybe the heat made you retain water, or maybe the change in weather

sparked a corresponding change in hormones or body cycle? you never

know.

hopefully your " holding time " will be over soon.

makes me thing of " holding pattern " from the airport :)
