Guest guest
Tammy a few small changes could really jumpstart your weight loss. I feel you need to eat a breakfast, even if it is just yogurt.Instead of the fast food usuals go for a salad and fruit. You could also grab a frozen dinner and nuke that. They have some good ones out there now. Probably will cost less than your fast food. Look for them on sale. Sounds a bit like your body is in starvation mode. It thinks it is not ging to be fueled properly due to your habits. Therefore, everything you eat is being stored. With your activity level your body needs fuel.Add more food, but at different intervals, and make it healthier. Bet you see and FEEL a change soon. Happy to meet you. Leena Thank You All Hello All,I have gotten so many nice responses, offers of support, and questions so I decided it would be best if I make a general response to try and cover it all. My kids are ¡X19, Cody¡X15, and na¡X10. is in college so he¡¦s not at home much and the other two are so full of life, I¡¦m surprised I¡¦m overweight. LOL I own a housekeeping service that I¡¦ve had for 16 years and I am, by no means, a ¡§couch potato.¡¨ The only time I¡¦m really sitting is while driving or working at my desk. I am a manual labor person so I am constantly climbing stairs, bending, reaching, etc. Again, I¡¦m surprised I¡¦m overweight. My normal daily food/beverage intake varies very little and I know that my sodas are my #1 downfall, which is other than the horrible, nasty habit of smoking. I¡¦ve discovered that the only reason I drink so many sodas is because I smoke. I hate the smell of smoke so I refuse to smoke in my home or other confined areas and I hate the taste it leaves in my mouth so I am ¡§always¡¨ chewing Dentyne Ice gum. If I hate it so much, why do I smoke? I¡¦ve concluded that it¡¦s more out of physiological habit and boredom than anything else. With my busy life, how can I be bored? It¡¦s driving, breaks during work, while I¡¦m on the phone, etc. Have I tried quitting, yes. Have I taken medications for it, yes. Again, it¡¦s more physiological than anything else. I usually have 2 cups of coffee w/cream and sugar every morning. I may stop for fast food for lunch but it¡¦s rare. I eat a sandwich or whatever we have once I get home around 3pm. Drink sodas all day; it¡¦s rare to see me without one. Dinner usually consists of a casserole of some sort or a boxed dinner like hamburger helper or such. I rarely eat at the dinner table. It¡¦s usually at my desk while I work on school work. If I don¡¦t want a ¡§meal¡¨ I¡¦ll have a bag of microwave popcorn. I know that my eating habits are irregular and unhealthy but I use the excuse that I don¡¦t have the time for anything else. I will say this, after all the warm welcomes, offers of support, my new goal (to start with) is to do 1 mile a day on the stationary bike. Then after a week (if I make it a week), I¡¦d like to try 2 miles a day and then so forth from there. You know everyone tells me that if I work out with a friend, it¡¦ll make it easier to stick to it. Well, I have lots of friends but our homes aren¡¦t convenient to plan stuff like that. I took an aerobics class (degree requirement) and made an A but lost 4lbs in 16 weeks. I¡¦m one of those that want results now, now, now! ¼ I am smart enough to know it takes time but that¡¦s why I resorted to the pills. I wanted to see results fast. After only losing 4lbs in 16 weeks, I gave up. Yes, I¡¦ve had a complete physical to check my thyroids and other body elements that would prevent me from losing weight. It all comes back clean. My cardiologist has even suggested that I have the surgery (sorry but can¡¦t remember name) where they put a band around my stomach. I want to but can¡¦t afford it plus I¡¦m scared. My boyfriend of 7 years (we are legally married but only so I can have health insurance and we don¡¦t live together) does not want me to do that. He says I¡¦m fine the way I am. I know he means well but I can see that he doesn¡¦t look at me the same way he use too. He doesn¡¦t say the same things he use too. Ok, I¡¦ve rambled enough so I¡¦ll stop for now. But I have to say THANK YOU to all of you for being so kind. In addition, thank you to Steve for doing what you¡¦ve done and for the reasons you¡¦ve done them. You¡¦ve (unintentionally) started a huge support group for ¡§people like me.¡¨Tammy

Guest guest
My husband has the problem with the soda as well. He cut way back and has lost some weight, just a few pounds so far. He really loathes water tho, so it is hard for him. Because of all my hiking and backpacking I have really learned to love water. It is my staple. But I was never a soda drinker to begin with so that helped. My drink of choice has been coffee...usually black but still not healthy to have all day long as it is a diuretic. lolol I used it instead of food....and gained weight over the years. As Gerard said, I have to eat more to lose weight. I used to eat 4 to 5 hundred calories a day...now usually stay between 14 and 16 hundred. Weight comes off an average of 2 to 4 pounds a week. And it has been steady. I usually count my official weight once a month. One or 2 changes at a time, as everyone says. It has taken me nearly 6 months to be comfortable with my eating and I still take a day off once in awhile. I have found tho that I actually am training my body to be hungry and I still put away about 1000 calories on my "day off". Pretty cool...much better then before! Guest guest
Thanks Alice. Man, you guys are so great! Always a new way to change things up a bit. I actually drink unsweetened tea but even with the new artificial sweeteners, yuck! LOL It’s something I’m going to work on. Thank you guys; you’re all so wonderful. Thank God and Steve for this site. LOL TAMMY _____ From: thefatmanwalking_group Subject: Re: Thank You All I made the switch to diet soda many years ago. Now I can't stomach a regular sugar soda. The sweeteners they use now in the brand name diet sodas taste really great with no aftertaste. Some of the cheap off-brands still taste bad to me, though. Another substitute is real iced tea with Splenda. You can make sun tea even without sun. I put tea bags in a gallon of water before bed and the tea is ready when I wake up. If you want to use real sugar in iced tea, even putting in 2 teaspoons will be SO much better than a sugar soda. Alice

Guest guest
I completely agree that you should take things one thing at a time :)It took me months to wean myself off of soda, and I really mean I did wean off of it!You are doing GREAT! I am glad you found us too. I do not expect anyone to be as extreme as I am (no white flour, no fast food, no cafiene, no candy etc) I think it is unreasonable for 99% of the poplulation I just say what I am doing and everyone is welcome to take what they like It did take me about four months to wean myself off of soda completely. I also quit smoking several years ago I find that everytime I chose to do something healthy for myself that it truly makes me feel better about myself. You are doing great!HugsLindy Thanks Lindy and I know I'll have to give them up but I'm going to take everyone's advice and start with minor changes and at a slower pace than any of the other times I've tried losing weight. I did 1 ½ miles on the stationary bike this morning, had an egg muffin for breakfast, and chicken fresco taco for lunch (these were suggestions from you guys for on the go food). I know it wasn't the healthiest day but it's a start. This weekend I plan to do some specific shopping for food that I can keep for my on the go life style. TAMMY _____ From: thefatmanwalking_group Subject: Re: Re: Thank You All I completely agree though I did not lose all the weight I needed to when I gave up soda, I did lose several pounds over the past year It was hard to give it up because I actually craved it and that is when I realized that I HAD to quit. I do not drink any kind of soda, but that is what I am doing it does not mean you have to be as extreme as I am. I feel better for it too! You can do it Lindy -- " Adventures free your spirit, let off steam and break up the monotony that is the trap of life. Guest guest
Hi , Maybe he just needs a little time to adjust to his new " normal " . You are being a good encourager and he will need you even more as time goes by. Please know you are both in my prayers. I'm sorry I can't help you with a doctor. Be his advocate, but don't push too hard, sweetie. Please believe me when I say I know how you're feeling right now. My husband has opted not to have a transplant, but there are a lot of things that went into that decision. I pray your fiancee will think carefully about his decision. Being informed is so important when dealing with this illness. Learn all you can and be ready when and if he decides to start asking questions. Hang in there sweetie. We're all here for you! Hugs............... Diane C. from TN ________________________________ To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Monday, November 17, 2008 3:02:29 PM Subject: Thank you all Thank you all for the warm welcome. I haven't been back on since yesterday. It was my sons 1st birthday party and we had to put on a happy face for him. My fiance is very upset still, with just cause. I just dont know what to do to help him. I've done nothing but search the internet today. He doesn't want to go through the liver biopsy, not does he want to get on the liver transplant list. he says he'd rather let nature take its course. I understand that he's scared, mad, fustrated and what not but how can i make him understand that there is other treatment options. I asked him to at least do the natural stuff. Vitamins, and what not but he said " I'll think about it " He doesn't want to know " how much time he has left " I've requested his medical records from his GI doctor. to see if I can figure out the numbers and what not. I also want to find him an alternative medicine doctor. We live in Santa California, about 1 hour north of Santa Barbara if anyone knows of anyone please let me know. Thanks again for your kind words and loads of information. I hope to be on later.
