Guest guest
Hello listmates, (Please read the GAS OUT statement at the end!!) The home stretch is finally here for the first ever rally for National Autism Awareness! This rally is to support each other and to raise awareness of Autism! Not to protest, not to demand - but to simply raise awareness of Autism and all the issues that go with it. I hope everyone took part in this event by sending in their childs picture, sending in a quilt square for the quilt that is now 6 feet high by 249 feet long!! I believe has enough pictures to create 100 picture display boards that are 3 feet wide by 6 feet tall!! I hope that all Autism organizations have contacted us to help support this event! It is not too late to help us out by donations for this grass-roots effort - contact The Autism Resource Konnection's website at www.ark-inc.org to purchase items, or call Joanne Fradkin the President of the organization at 1-877-no-autism for the address to just send in $25.00 or so - it is tax-deductible! Please help that way!! What we accomplish at this rally, will benefit the entire Autism community - please help us out with your donation!! Unlocking Autism is also in need of donations to help in the creation of these permanent display boards that will no doubt be traveling across the country to " Open Your Eyes to Autism!! " . Please contact them to perhaps sponsor a board!! What a great way to help out the cause of Autism and to raise the Awareness!! They also have T-shirts and other items for sale. www.littleangels.org or call Reynolds the President of that organization at 1-. Please also make your voice heard in your own community and with your state legislatures!! We not only need media in Washington, D.C., but we need media representation from as many cities in as many states as possible! Please participate in that way by contacting your local media - T.V. and newspapers and tell them of the event. Contact your legislatures about being at the hearings April 6th, and at the rally April 8th. One of my motivational quotes I have on the top of my computer screen is this: " It's better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness... " To me, that is so true - Let's face it, right now Autism is basically still in the darkness - we still learn more to help our children from internet discussion groups than from our own doctors! We still depend on each other and list groups for ways to battle the school systems for appropriate education!! Whatever list your are reading this from - what we accomplish at this rally can help you! Perhaps " Open the nation's eyes to the need for better education " , perhaps " Open the government's eyes to the need for quicker, more unbiased studies on secretin " , " Open the insurance company's eyes to cover our expenses!!! " - whatever your area of concern - raising the awareness of autism in any way, can help us all and the issues we face daily. This rally is our way of lighting that one small candle in hopes that more and more candles will be lit by that!! This rally in itself will probably not cure autism or make great strides in research, - but the awareness raised from it will! The government will know the unstoppable desire and dedication of " mere parents " to get help for our children!! You can choose to help Lead us to more Awareness, you can be supportive and Follow us to D.C. in our efforts to create more Awareness, or you can choose to Stay out of the way and do nothing and just wish there were more awareness to help you....... Those parents who have committed the better part of the last year in planning and working for this event will see it through no matter how big or small. We will raise as many funds as we can, contact as many media personnel as we can......... Please, join us if you have not, and help in terms of getting the media involved, local, national, world - get your Senators and Representatives informed. Send them your story and concerns on Autism....tell them about the rally............ Here is a web link to all the members of the Senate and their phone numbers and E-mail addresses. It took me 40 minutes to type them ALL in my computer. I sent them information on Autism and why I would like them to know about the rally... http://www.senate.gov/contacting/index.cfm for the representatives http://clerkweb.house.gov/106/mbrcmtee/members/teledir/members/MCapDir.htm no E-mail addresses here, and I only called my State's Representatives.
