Sorry to hear about your situation. But you are in the right place to get all kinds of support. My suggestion: 1) don't take another anti depressant. Especially any re-uptake inhibitor Zoloft (SSRI) or Welbutrin (SNRI)2) Get plenty of exercise atleast 4/5 days a week3) Take fish oil, L-tyrosine, vitamin-D (check for vitamin D levels first) and a B-complex everyday for the next few weeks. hi guys- im a female from melbourne australia

please help with suggestions or advice, so stressed about this , its consuming me

ive pretty much been depressed for all my adult life,when i was in my early 20's i abused drugs which prob didnt help the situation

went through a bad period 7 or so years ago and was on effexor and luvox, well helped me get my life back but after 2 years on the meds

i went from a crazy sex drive to ZEROOOOOOOOOOO, 7 years i havent taken meds and still NOOO libido

if i never had sex again i wouldnt care. except im married and its threatening to ruin my otherwise happy union

for the last 12 months or so my depression and now anxiety some OCD has come back in a big way and ive been avoiding meds but now ive realised

i need help, i cant go on like this, so i did alot of research online and found out about SSRI induced loss of libido

it was comforting in a way to realise im not a freak the meds did this to me, although i havent been on them in years and it never came back

thats when i found out about Wellbutrin and the amazing stories of it helping people getting their SSRI induced low libido back

well my elation turned to despair when i found out its not available in Australia, now i know there are no guarantees but when you are this desperate

any glimmer of hope out there becomes an obsession, if i could fix my depression, constant exhaustion and libido i would be ecstatic

and from alot of the reviews ive read it can possibly cure all 3, so i went to my GP and well she gives me Zoloft, ??? so annoyed

they have no idea, Wellbutrin isnt approved here, only pre packaged as Zyban for smoking cessation and she wouldnt give it to me off label either for depression

so i went to another GP still the same, now i have a psychiatrist appointment in 2 weeks so im going to try my luck

the way i see it if that dosent work i have 2 options

order generic online (which i DEF DONT want to do) but will try anything., ive read bad stories about generic

Perhaps you could _pretend_ to be a smoker, and get an " off-label " Zyban

prescription that way? I hate to suggest " gaming " the medical system like that,

but sometimes it's the only way to get what you need.

I've been reading this list for a while. Some people get good results from

Wellbutrin, some don't. It's not a _reliable_ fix for PSSD.

i have thought of that, but that will be a last resort

they only give that to you for 2 months or so

so if i took it for smoking cessation and had success

i would have to keep changing drs, to keep getting it

not really the way i want to go about it

is there anything else i could try?

from the research i have done some people have had success with dopamine

producing drugs, does anyone know anything about this?

what about accupuncture? im so desperate to fix this prob i will

try anything, drs are useless, they dont belive or know about this!!

thanks for your advice

i have been reading about L-tyrosene, is this safe to take

for long periods? also ive heard about l dopa

whats the difference? have many members on here (female) had success with either

of these? do you know?

They are both precursors to the neurotransmitter dopamine. Tyrosine turns into

L-dopa, then L-dopa becomes dopamine. L-dopa can be given in the form of a

synthetic drug or by taking mucuna pruriens. You must make sure you are also

taking other neurotransmitter precursors and necessary supplements, however, in

order to maximize the benefits and to not throw your other neurotransmitters

further off balance. I encourage you to read up more on amino acid therapy. I

am doing it under close supervision of a healthcare provider and am seeing

benefits however it is very much a science of balance. It's not just a matter

of going to the local drug store and buying stuff off the shelf.

There are atleast a couple of females here that got better recently. You could check for previous messages from and for their case history and the like....Regarding the safely of L-tyrosine, I don't think anything could be as bad a prescription medication. I have used it for 6 months before. More recently, I've been taking it for 2 months. Other than making me slightly agitated, it doesn't really cause any side effects. I take 500mg just before bed. Anything can have side effects. You should always look up side effects

for whatever you're thinking of taking. For some people, caffiene could

have bad effects on the heart, as an example.

I still read posts

I have made a fifty percent recovery at least, this is lol yes recovery is possible, I did start some areobics, and believe this may have helped. x

I did order Wellbutrin once a long time ago I cannot remember now where I got it from Im sorry or weather it was brand or generic- but there are lots of shops on the internet. you do have to be careful though because none of it is llegal I dont think, you dont know what there giving you weather it is safe or not. The wellbutrin didnt do anything for me anyway, the only thing that has helped is exercise and a healthy diet and lots of sleep. I hope and pray for you

Have you ever tried any of the dopamine agonists? They have helped " jump start "

things for some people. I know " Biker " has had some significant success after

suffering for many years. In the beginning of that success he used some

Dostinex. There are others as well. I am trying the amino acid route of trying

to boost and reactivate my dopamine. I am seeing some progress however it is

slow because there is a lot of tweaking going on with the dosing. I am just

trying to steer clear of the synthetic pharmaceuticals if I can help it but know

that the dopamine agonists are available if all else fails.

thanks , i would definetely be checking reviews before and IF i do anything, its

not something im keen on,

does anyone know if u can actually buy non generic? so the REAL deal?

im not keen on generic and want to try brand name Wellbutrin, although i wont

have a precription for it, we dont have wellbutrin in australia, we have zyban

which is used for smoking cessation and its equivalent to Wellbutrin 150 SR

im going to my first psychiatrist appointment tomorrow and in soo

bloody nervous, i bet she thinks PSSD dosent exist

of cource it will all be due to my depression

if no one believes in this there will never be a cure as no one will

look for alternatives- damn im so miserable about this situation!!

yes i have heard of them but havent tried them yet

ive been off effexor for 6 years after only a year on it and have PSSD- over the

last 6 years i have tried the following: (to no avail)

good clean diet

heaps of excersise, weights /cardio

accupuncture

naturopath- herbs etc

wyld for women supplement'

fish oil

sex councellor

ACT therapy

AMi nasal spray - cost me $1,000 total rort

so tomorrow im going to my first psychiatrist appointment

i want either wellbutrin or another dopamine agonist

i started taking L-Tyrosene the other day with vitamin B6

all ive noticed so far is more energy, and anxiety and slight insomnia- i have a

few questions.

1. is there any way to test your dopamine levels?

2. ive just started L-tyrosine with vitamin B6

if this is to work how long (roughlly) should i expect to see any change?

3. do i need to take anything else with L tyrosine??

You are wrong. It can get worse. I'm living proof. I tried welbutrin hoping that it will improve my condition, but it made it much worse. God only knows when it gets better....Stay away from welbutrin. If you think u must try something, try low doses of Dostinex or some other dopamine agonist. im sorry for your situaltion, i really hope it gets better

in my case im not sure how it can get worse, i dont have a libido at all- so

these meds have other side effects? potentially long term ?

I take varied doses of 5htp, L-tyrosine, L-Lysine, L-Cysteine, and Mucuna

Pruriens. In addition, the amino acids are coupled up with Selenium, Folate,

Calcium, Vit. C, & Vit. B6 to help them work better and to prevent depletion of

necessary supplements. The dosing changes about every 2 weeks based upon

benefits and sometimes lab test results. I work with a naturalpath Dr. and have

been doing this since August. I'm not where I want to be but I have seen

improvements. I now sleep great, my flat mood has disappeared, I am feeling

more joy, and I get periods of time when my libido and sexual function return.

It still comes and goes but I am still hopefull that I will recover. My

serotonin is fully in balance but my dopamine still lags behind. He is working

on boosting it without compromising the balance. I'll continue to post as

things progress. It definitely is a gradual process though.

I just posted a reply to Ann regarding the Amino Acids I take. You can see

there some of the other aminos and vitamin supplements that are recommended to

go together. I am working with a program called NeuroAssist

(www.neuroassist.com). I'm not sure it's available by you but their website has

a wealth of information you can use to educate yourself on aminos. Part of

their program includes testing for neurotransmitter levels. Through the urine

tests they can tell whether levels of serotonin, dopamine, ephinephrin, and

norepinephrin are depleted. Mine definitely was in the the latter three.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that Dr. She was not a very compassionate

individual. I hope you won't be going back. It just might be a blessing in

disguise. I tried Welbutrin for only 2 mos. It did nothing for my libido but I

did get chronic tinnitus (ringing in my ears) and a permanent clicking in my

jaw. Neither have gone away despite not taking the drug now for more than 3

years.

My experience with psychaitrists has always been like this and I think I have

worked they are like that. They learn psychiatry over a number of years and see

all these appalling cases where people seem quite mad and they also see what the

drugs do to them. Because their seniors prescribe these drugs willy nilly it

becomes accepted as the norm and it doesn't matter if these people get damaged

by the drugs as they see them as hopeless cases anyway.

Many people hate the drugs and being treated by pschiatrists as bad and subhuman

people devoid of any rights or dignity, and so they rebel but psychiatry clamps

down on them with even more horrible drugs. Rather than helping people

psychiatrists are really at war with their patients.

Now when it comes to people with depression, or anxiety, etc, they keep this

indifferent approach because they have become so hard to human suffering (and

the worst of this suffering is caused by their terrble drugs). To them, we are

all idiots who don't know what is best for us, so they talk to us rudely, but

this would never happen in mainstream medicine where people are considered

equal.

It is time for this profession to stand aside and let someone else take over. So

bring on the psychologists and pschotherapists because they have treatments that

really do work.
