Guest guest
Hi, How much are you taking now? and how much does he want to up it by, and what were your tests results? JoanBeth Elliott wrote: Hi everyone. I have been having some problems with mylevels lately and after a period of not needing asmuch medicine my levels went up and my doctor onlywants to increase my medicine one day a week. I amthinking he is turning out to be one of those doctorsnone of us want to deal with. I don't see howincreasing the dose one day a week is going to helpme. Little frustrated here. I also find it very hardto change doctors because I have military insurancewhich has a very limited number of endos and otherspeciality doctors.I need more of just a few listening ears more than anyadvice. I am already planning on calling him back onthis and telling him that I don't see where 1 dose aweek will do it. Thanks,Beth __________________________________ Yahoo! Guest guest
Hi Joan, My lab test results came back as 3.35 and when over the last few appointments with this doctor we came to the conclusion that 1.33 or around there was were I felt good and had very little to no symptoms. I was on .625 until April when I had a thyroid storm and had to be lowered to .50. Now he wants to up it .25 to ..75 only one time a week. That doesn't make sense to me since I feel crappy if I miss my medicine only two days in a row. I am exhuasted, my fingers, feet, legs, and face are swollen, brain fog..everything is going on. Yesterday I called him back and left a message with his secretary asking if we could up the medicine a little more than that. He called back and left a message saying he didn't have half an hour to spend on the phone and that if I wanted to up my medicine that I need an appointment (it takes three months to get an appointment). the message was really nasty so at this point in time I am wanting to change doctors, but having military insurance I don't have much of an option to go to and actually pretty scared of going to a new doctor, because of the same old crap. Just frustrated. Beth __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.yahoo.com
Guest guest
Beth... Something you might want to try. It could backfire but it's not likely. Take the dose you feel good on. If you run out of meds early call your pharmacy for a refill. The MD office will deny it saying that they gave you enough meds to last through to your next appointment. Then have the pharmacist call and explain to the MD office that for hypo-T you cannot go without your meds. If the patient (you) made a mistake and took too much medicine, so be it but it is patient neglect to force you to go without meds from the point that you run out to your next MD appt. ;o) This works for things such as thyroid problems and other problems that require long term meds. Obviously, it would not work with narcotics and those type drugs, but for levothyroxine type drugs, it should work. If the doc still refuses threaten to turn him into the board of medical examiners and you'll get your Rx. He may tell you to start seeing another doc however you want to change docs anyway AND he HAS to provide you with enough meds until your first appt with the new doc. Guest guest
Also, until you find another doctor you can get your meds even before the month is up by just paying full price and not using insurance for the next bottle. I do this from time to time when I have increased and run out sooner than the month. I don't know how much yours cost but ny Armour without insurance is only about $1.50 more. Keep in mind it is a good idea to raise slowly anyhow - you can get hyper adrenal symptoms if you go too fast and it takes 1 week or so for the thyroid meds to really work into your system. That's when you can start to feel hyper but you more likely have weak adrenals than are truly hype on such a low doser. This has been my experience. Good luck - ~Anita Bipley wrote: Beth...
