Guest guest
I don't meet the donor until the pre-admit appt. At that point I'm just asking them to review their facesheet, and telling them to please call me ASAP if a billing problem arises (as in, Please don't wait til you've been sent to collections...or court) and also to be sure they know to call us if they need a pain med refill or have a post-op complication. on Financial Counselor Legacy Transplant Services 1040 NW 22nd Ave Ste 480 Portland OR 97210 toll free fax lmorriso@... Guest guest
Hi a, I meet with all donors during their evaluation. I make sure they have everything in place with work, i.e. STD and LTD and I always talk to them about life insurance and suggest they get life insurance if they don't already have it, prior to the transplant, to avoid any problem later. I make sure they understand that although the recipients insurance is responsible for the transplant, all their private bills will still be coming in. They must also understand that STD and LTD are not 100% pay so they need to be prepared. I understand there was a study done and it was determined that a donor actually spends around $3000 during this process. I didn't see the specifics, but I believe it included loss wages, gas for appts etc. We have major discussions here if a donor doesn't have health insurance, especially with our liver patients. They don't follow the same rules as kidney, and if the donor had any complications, although "we" would be responsible there really isn't any "legal" guidelines for livers. Happy New year All!! Guest guest
I meet with all patients the first time they come in to discuss their insurance benefits, medicare and any out of pocket expenses of transplant such as copays deductibles etc.We discuss benefits for a living donor. I also tell them that our discussion only covers the benefits as they are at that time but I need to know of any changes to be sure they can continue to pursue transplant with our program. I also check to see if referrals are needed. >>> Fornash.@... 12/30/04 02:45PM >>> We do the same thing as your center, a. Fornash Mayo Clinic ville Donors My question is about Donor Workup. Guest guest
We do not require our kidney donors to have insurance. We would not collect any deposits as donor services are covered under acquisition. If something comes up and they need to be treated medically, we refer them back to their primary care MD for services.
