This weekend is the weekend for new members to our family! We have a new OT!

This is what she had to say....

I am an occupational therapist currently working with a child with MDS

and would like to receive current info. on MDS to best treat this

child.

Welcome to our family! I am so glad that you have joined us and taken the time

to help this child more by learning more about MDS! Basically, children with MDS

have a varying degree of abilities. Currently there is little information on

fine motor skills and MDS, so most are treated for whatever the delays are. We

do have several OT's on this board, so I am sure they will be happy to answer

your questions as well.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have concerning MDS. Also, please

tell the family about our support group and IMDSA if they do not know about it

yet, so we can provide support and information to them as well.

I look forward to hearing more from you

Sincerely

Kristy Colvin

That is great you are taking such an intrest to help the child you are

working with better. I know how important an OT is in our child' s development.

My

daughter is 6 months old and does not eat anything by mouth. She is fed by a

G-tube and the struggle with her not eating has been harder to deal with than

the diagnosis of MDS and her heart defect. The support of her OT has helped me

to remain calm and not get overly anxious when trying to teach her to eat.

There are days I just want to cry because it is easy to believe it will never

happen.

(mom to 6 months MTDS,

ASD, G-tube)
