Guest guest
I understand the difference in ingredients, but what is the difference in performance? Also in a foot scrub, would I need to add t-50 since I am adding shea butter and coconut oil? If so how much would you suggest. thanks De
Guest guest
>I understand the difference in ingredients, You are correct, there is a differnece between these to preservative systems. LiquaPar Oil is a blend of Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben and Butylparaben LiquaPar Optima is a blend of Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben and Butylparaben. >but what is the difference in performance? It's dependent on the product being preserved, use level and safety and by lab testing. For an expert opinion, I'd contact Steve Orofino ISP/Sutton 116 Summit Avenue P.O. Box 837 Chatham, NJ 07928-0837 Tel: FAX: Email: SOrofino@... Personally speaking and after much thought, I would have reservations using 1% LiquaPar Optima or Phenonip or Uniphen P-23 in a salt scrub. When you use these preservatives in salt scrubs at 1%,you are rubbing approximately 0.7% Phenoxyethanol into abraded skin. If you lower the level of LiquaPar Optima or Phenonip or Uniphen P-23 to 0.25% you have also lowered the levels of the parabens. In the EU, there are restrictions on the use and use level of Phenoxyethanol. For example, when you add 0.25% Phenoxyethanol to your scrub, you are actually adding 0.179% to 0.183% Phenoxyethanol 0.038% to 0.043% Methylparaben 0.009% to 0.011% Ethylparaben 0.004% to 0.006% Propylparaben 0.004% to 0.006% Isobutylparaben whereas, if you added 0.1% LiquaPar Oil 0.04% Isopropylparaben 0.03% Isobutylparaben 0.03% Butylparaben >Also in a foot scrub, would I need to add t-50 since I am adding shea butter and coconut oil? >If so how much would you suggest. If you are speaking of Covi-ox T-50, I'd follow the manufactures recommendations: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Cosmeticinfo/files/Ingredients/COVIOX%20T50.pdf Maurice -------------------------------------------------------- Maurice O.
