That is why I paid cash for my house!!!! Now you are going to say How did you come up with the money for a house. We live in a nice middle class neighborhood. But this house was owned by a man that walked to the beat of a different drummer. And being clean was not one of his fortes. He had 2 huge dogs in this house. And mold was climbing up the walls. Holes kicked in the walls, doors and the sliding glass door was not even on the track. Most of the windows had either cracks in them or just had cardboard over the windows. He didn't like to pay taxes either. This house was fixing to be sold for taxes. His daughter, came and put both of her parents in the nursing home, because they simply could not take care of themselves. She saved the house from the back taxes, but could not bring herself to clean it

up. So we brought it for a steal. We put about twenty thousand into updating it, replacing things like the toliets!! sinks, and so forth. We had to de-mold the house. Took all the carpets out of the house. That was disgusting, full of dog poop and urine. Cleaned out bunches and bunches, of old computers, books piled high as you could go from ever room of the house. One room my daughter's room looks like it might have been a S/M room complete with a mace hanging on the wall. I am not kidding. The back yard was a disaster. Holes from the dogs everywhere. Weeds knee high. Front yard was not much better. It took us about 2 months to get it liveable. But now it is one of the better looking houses on the block. I love weed and feed it is from Ortho. It really made the yard work easy, and the grass grew back so pretty and green. Total cost of Home: 40,000

that is also with all the repairs we did. Course I am lucky I have a husband who can fix almost anything. And Me, I am the one with the decorators touch. Yeah I am lucky. This house will sell now for much, much more. But hubby wants to live in it for one more year. Although Breianna and I have found another fixer upper with 5 acres of land just east of here. We could sell this one, and buy that one for 40,000. And still have enough money to do all the repairs. The house Brei and I are looking at just needs some repairs to the hard wood floors. They need replacing and some bathroom work, My husband is a Plumber and working on his contractors license so we could do it. Anyway, if you watch flip this house, that is basically what we did. We demo'd and then fixed and it is lovely. Love JanetJackie on wrote: thats awesome honey,, Im thrilled for you! I think that the whole Woodstock thing has been overly

romanticized. It certainly was a “trip,” but it wasn’t

as pretty as it may look all these years later.

I drove there with a friend and we had

picked up a hitchhiker so he took us through back roads and got us really

pretty close. The NY State Thruway (a major, major highway) had been shut

down & without his help, we probably would never have gotten there at all.

I remember sleeping in the car that night

and waking up at maybe 5 am. I could hear, from about 4 or 5 miles away,

Grace Slick singing – it was awesome.

BUT, I had to go to the bathroom SO

bad. Now my friend, being a guy, could go pee in the bushes, but I was

not about to do that – thinking back, I should have. We walked the

4 or 5 miles to the festival grounds – of course, by now, it had rained

and everything was MUD. I had on Dr. Scholl wood sandals and they

were permanently imbedded with mud in the wood bottoms (should have saved

them!)

When we finally got to where they had rows

and rows of porta potties set up, I had to wait on a long line……all

the while about peeing in my pants……..and when I finally got into

the little potty cubicle, it was so disgusting that I started to gag and came

pretty close to puking.

All I wanted to do was GO HOME. I

think we walked around the festival for several hours and I can’t even

remember what groups I heard. We were out of there that afternoon.

There were a lot of wonderful stories that

came out of Woodstock,

but a lot of tragedies as well. I’m glad I fell closer to the

wonderful than the tragic!

Dort you were at Woodstock!!

Now I must say that is awesome!!

Sorry guys but it is way cool. Imagine getting to hear some of the

great music artist play.

Aside from all the sex and drugs at Woodstock, the rock and roll must have been

great.

Oh here is a little side note. The kids call my house the hippy house.

Why, I don't know, yeah I do know.

I love colorful things and I have beautiful bright flowing curtains on

my windows. I have wind chimes galore.

I am a bit of a old hippy momma.

I was like a half a second too young to be a real hippie.

But was alive to see it all, just too young to have been there.

went to Woodstock, and then moved on

to other drugs that were in a different world from the Woodstock

generation. I think I was more caught up in a wave flowing across the

country – and not so much looking to deaden some deep pain.

When it didn’t suit me any

more, I was able to say enough. Of course, it took me a number of years

and a methadone program to do it, but I did it and then got off the methadone

too. I swore that I would never let a drug control my life again.

And I didn’t for many years and now I find myself ill and back on drugs

looking to find a way out. It saddens me too, but it’s different

I saw a story on Dr. Phil about 2 sisters

who were on heroin; I think they were twins. Of course, Dr. Phil was trying

to help them and the story continued, but I don’t recall how it

ended. One sister was pregnant I think and they were living in cars and

doing whatever they had to for the drugs.

I was fortunate in that, while I

did live on the streets for a short time, I was always smart enough to get

by. You can credit yourself for everything you did and then can

only put their future in their own hands, which you know.

That’s terrific! I love watching

some of those home shows and A & E’s house shows are great.

Even when my husband was around, he couldn’t

fix much so you’re very lucky! And to be able to see the potential in a

house that others would level is a gift too. More power to you!

That is why I paid cash for my house!!!!

Now you are going to say How did you come up with the money for a

house.

We live in a nice middle class neighborhood. But this house was owned

by a man that walked to the beat of a different drummer. And being clean was

not one of his fortes.

He had 2 huge dogs in this house. And mold was climbing up the walls.

Holes kicked in the walls, doors and the sliding glass door was not even on the

track. Most of the windows had either cracks in them or just had cardboard over

the windows. He didn't like to pay taxes either.

This house was fixing to be sold for taxes. His daughter, came and put

both of her parents in the nursing home, because they simply could not take

care of themselves.

She saved the house from the back taxes, but could not bring herself to

clean it up. So we brought it for a steal.

We put about twenty thousand into updating it, replacing things like

the toliets!! sinks, and so forth. We had to de-mold the house. Took all the

carpets out of the house. That was disgusting, full of dog poop and urine.

Cleaned out bunches and bunches, of old computers, books piled high as you could

go from ever room of the house. One room my daughter's room looks like it might

have been a S/M room complete with a mace hanging on the wall. I am not

kidding.

The back yard was a disaster. Holes from the dogs everywhere. Weeds knee

high. Front yard was not much better. It took us about 2 months to get it

liveable. But now it is one of the better looking houses on the block.

I love weed and feed it is from Ortho. It really made the yard work

easy, and the grass grew back so pretty and green.

Total cost of Home: 40,000 that is also with all the repairs we did.

Course I am lucky I have a husband who can fix almost anything. And Me, I am

the one with the decorators touch.

Yeah I am lucky.

This house will sell now for much, much more.

But hubby wants to live in it for one more year. Although Breianna and

I have found another fixer upper with 5 acres of land just east of here. We

could sell this one, and buy that one for 40,000. And still have enough money

to do all the repairs. The house Brei and I are looking at just needs some

repairs to the hard wood floors. They need replacing and some bathroom work, My

husband is a Plumber and working on his contractors license so we could do it.

Anyway, if you watch flip this house, that is basically what we did. We

demo'd and then fixed and it is lovely.

Love

Janet

Yeah it is fun. My daughter requested hard wood floors in her room. And they turned out great. And really easy to put in. Yeah, it was awful at first, but by the time we were finished I was very proud of what we had accomplished. I watch A & E too. As well as HGTV and DYI. My next project in the near future is to make a dining room table. I don't know if I want to use oak or maple. Dean has this saw that I am dying to use. I have made furniture before, just for the heck of it. And it really turns out great. Love JanetDorothy wrote: That’s terrific! I started removing the old wallpaper in my

half bathroom about 6 years ago……….I never finished the

job. The cat’s litter box is in that bathroom so when visitors come, I

tell them that I locked the cat in there one day by accident and she clawed the

walls trying to get out………LOL!!

The worst part is that I don’t even

notice it any more! Too bad you don’t live closer!! J
