Guest guest
Good idea. Well, I'm in the fourth week of my challenge. This is the second farthest I have made it in a challenge, so I am doing pretty good. I've only missed a few workouts. Most are due to the fact that I do have travel at times and my wife's four days of birthday observances. I'm using the Database listed here in the group to show my progress. At the beginning of this (the 4th week) I've lost 4 scale pounds. And even though calipers aren't entirely accurate, they do show that all of that weight loss was fat. Though, I couldn't see that I gained any muscle, I attribute that to the inaccuracy of my measuring method. I'm delightfully sore today. I missed Monday due to lack of sleep catching up to me. And since muscle growth is more important to me, I felt I needed to get that lower body workout in. And last night was my upper body workout. My abs are telling me that the decline bench crunch isn't a lot of fun. My shoulders, bis, and tris are tight as well. There isn't a lot of other tight places, because it appears bicep and tricep failure is acheived more quickly than chest or lat failure. I'll stick with this routine until the 6 week mark and then change up my routine for the second 6 weeks. When I change up I'll try to remove the triceps for sure from as many exercises as possible. But, other than having to keep bumping up my weights as I grow incrementally stronger, my biggest accomplishment is really not having fallen off the treadmill yet. Though, I do have that to do tonight. So, keep your fingers crossed for me. Dan L. C1W4D4

Guest guest
Thanks for the update . I'm getting Stella's Kitchen cookbook too. I can't wait to get a look at it. I've liked the recipes Stella has shared here on the list so I expect to love the book. Yeah, I should be posting my menus again too. I've gotten out of my routines a bit since leaving town. Plus, going to war has zapped some of my mojo and I feel fatigued every morning. But...no excuses for this body for lifer. Gotta just do it! Guest guest
Hi Brett, Can you (or others...JenB, Lana, ...) help me with developing a split routine. How do I do that? At which set do I switch? Do 12s, 10s, & 8s with one exercise and then 6s, 12s, 12s with the second exercise? I will do this for C4 starting in April. Thanks. Yet I see you are holding your own as a result of your work with BFL. Way to go. Your body is so much better off, especially with the thyroid mutiny. Glad you checked in. Now, keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi- I'm Dave's wife, , unlurking for roll call. We are on week three of our first challenge. The first week was great but the second and third have been rough...Dave and I both got food poisoning/virus (not sure which) last week. It hit me hard, even landed me in the ER, and is taking much longer to get over than expected Haven't worked out in a week and am just now beginning to eat " real " food. Definitely not the best way to loose weight. Here's hoping week four brings us back to working out and eating clean again. This program seems to answer all the problems we have had with diet and exercise programs and we are looking forward to seeing real results at the end of the challenge. Guest guest
I started doing BFL this past October. Tomorrow Friday I will complete my second 12 week challenge and week 24 total time. This past 12 weeks, I changed my focus some, but still work to make the BFL way of judging and eating food a perminate part of my life. This past twelve weeks I have: Lost 11.5#'s of body fat gained 5.9#'s of Lean muscle mass For the total time of 24 weeks I have Lost 42#'s of body fat gained 14#'s of Lean muscle mass There is still a long way to go until I reach my goal of 9% body fat, currently at 17.3%. I have learned from following this program that the results are in direct relationship to my effort and determination and that I can do it. Guest guest
Thanks for the encouragement, Kelley. Today was a good day and I'm feeling much better-so I think I'll be getting up at o'dark thirty in the morning and try to get an upper body workout in. Then the week won't be a total bust. Guest guest
Great idea, Kelley, I'm Sara from Alabama. I'm a busy 42 year teacher, wife and mom. I decided to try Body for Life after years of exercising and not seeing the results I saw in the BFL book. I've been living the BFL lifestyle for over 3 years now and love what it does for my body and mind. I have changed my workouts to a split routine - chest, biceps, triceps one day, shoulders, back, abs one day and lower body the last day. I still eat 100% BFL and am a firm believer that a huge portion of my success lies in the fact that I eat so cleanly. My pictures are on our website and in my briefcase at http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/tatumcondo Sara I think we might be in a bit of a slump. Let's stir up some energy, how about it. Guest guest
My mother had half of her thyroid removed several years ago. She went through the same ups and downs that you are talking about after she had the surgery. And *chuckle* as a family, we all went through it with her. Best of luck. Just trust that they will get it right sooner rather than later. Though, of course, it seems like later rather than sooner, especially as you are going through it. Hang in there. It will come together for you. My mother is now going on 15 years since her operation. Dan L. C1W4D5 > Nora here, > > On a bad slump, not following diet perfectly or exercising perfectly. My thyroid dropped again a month ago and in spite of exercising and diet being right then i gained 8 lbs and 2 inches around my waist. Which is royally pissing me off, but until they get the thyroid straight the only thing i can say is thank goodness for bfl cause im actually not gaining anymore, even if i cant loose it. darn ol thryoid, makes me loose energy, slows down the metobalism, and makes me depressed. > > So thats whats up with me. > > Nora
Guest guest
Thanks, And thanks for the chuckle. LOL, my family feels the same way. Ive been at this for 8 years now. I have never had part taken out or burned. I was good for a year, and now this. Nora Re: Roll Call My mother had half of her thyroid removed several years ago. Congratulations, that was so cool seeing your picture in there. I am a 44 yr. old wife, mother, and psychotherapist in Cleveland. I came across BFL when a friend shared her copy of the book (10/01). I read it and immediately knew it was the program I needed. I had not exercised for about 15 years or more and it showed. So I am now on challenge 3...almost done actually. My body is definitely showing improvement but it is not where I want it yet. So I will shake it up some more starting C4 in April. Guest guest
Howdy everyone. I'm in my third week, fifth day. I'm having a hard time following the nutrition side of the program. The exercise side is no problem. I had my body fat measured yesterday and I was throughly disappointed because it was 36.2%. I was expecting 29%. But I don't know what it was when I started but a year ago it was 29%. I've lost 10 pounds so far and a couple of inches in my thighs, waist and chest. Guest guest
Hi Kelley, Up north is north and west of you. I'm in Traverse City, Michigan (i.e. tip of the pickie). I'm glad someone would love to see the photo's. I for one am not so enthused to see them, but I am a realist and know, or at least think I know what they will look like. Take care and keep up the intensity. C1W2D5 > Hi UpNorth, > > Glad to hear from you. Where 'up north'? Guest guest
Nora: Sorry to hear that you are having physical challenges. Most of my stumbling blocks have been my own mental roadblocks. I know it may sound over-simplified, but I've really found that taking it one workout and one meal at a time has helped. That, and I'm considering throwing out my scale. Too many emotions tied to the numbers. Have a great day! Take it in small steps. A. Michigan C2,D3

Guest guest
> Great idea, Kelley, > > I'm Sara from Alabama. I'm a busy 42 year teacher, wife and mom. Sara, back in October of 2002 I seen your before and after pictures and then the time you had been doing the BFL program, that is one of the things that convinced me to try BFL. I was not interested in a diet or just some quick weight loss that I would see return along with an additional amount of weight. I was looking for a long term program that a person could use to change the way they looked at and the way they lived their life. After I seen your story and a couple of other peoples, I knew it was something I could do and something that would work. This is the first time I seen your new picture ... you just keep looking better and better. Must feel good to know that when you are in the gym or on the water that you are the one others wish they could look like. Thanks Sara TwoWalks
