Guest guest
Hey there. Well, after 2 long months, we finally got our results back on 's yeast and bacteria levels, and after hounding the office for weeks to get a nurse to take my call, they actually patched me through to Dr. Rao last night. He prescribed Metronidazole, which he wanted us to start right away. He had call it into our local Walgreens, because I knew we wouldn't be able to get any further than the corner in all of this snow. Anyway, Mike went out to pick up the prescriptions (he also prescribed Ketoconazole, which he wants us to wait a week to start), and when I opened the bag, I saw that they were both bottles of tablets! Anyway, since I can't talk to anyone at Dr. Rao's office right now, and the pharmacist was of no help, I'm REALLY hoping that someone can help me out here. The pharmacist said that the Metronidazole had a bad, metallic taste, which makes my situation even worse. does not eat anything pureed, slimy, wet or cold because of his sensory issues. He refused to eat baby food as an infant. There's no way for me to mix it in with applesauce, etc., as he just doesn't eat anything like that. He also only drinks water, so since this has apparently got a bad taste, there will be no hiding it. The pharmacist mentioned that compounding it would be the only way to get it in a liquid form, and that our closest compounding Walgreens is about 20 minutes away. Normally, I'd just send Mike out, but not in this weather. So here are my questions, two for now, one for later. First, should I wait until we can get these compounded? If not, how would you recommend that we get our non verbal 2 year old to take them? The prescription is for 1/2 of a tablet 3 times daily. If you're recommendation is to wait until we can have it compounded, my next question would be how to make force feeding him liquid medication (which we'd have to do) less stressful for him and for us. He had strep throat last week, and was on zithromax for 5 days. We had to hold him down, and even then, he spit at least half of it out. The last day, he actually gagged to the point that he threw up the medicine and his dinner all over the place. Either way, we're screwed with a 3x a day medication (and then another one that would start in a week), but if ANYONE has any suggestions, I'd totally appreciate hearing them. I haven't actually seen the results yet, but he said that his yeast levels were bad, and that his bacteria levels were bad. He actually briefly mentioned having him go sugar free (to which I have nothing pleasant to say), and said that would send us some sort of diet or menu or something, but she never did. I can't even think about more limitations on his diet right now. (Please, no commentary on diets....I seriously might crack.) Right now, I just need to figure out how to get any of this medication into his body. I'd appreciate ANY suggestions. Thanks! Serena
