The Central

Texas Autism Center Offers a

Three-Day Workshop on Verbal

Behavior for Caregivers of

Children with Autism and Other Learning

Differences

AUSTIN, Texas—The Central Texas Autism Center, which gives

hope to thousands of families in central Texas who dream of a better for their

children with autism and other learning differences, now offers a three-day

workshop February 22-24 with Board Certified Behavior Analyst Dr. J.

Carbone to learn about teaching verbal behavior.

This workshop focuses on the behavioral approach to teaching

communication skills to children with autism and other developmental

disabilities. Workshop participants will learn:

To conduct a Behavioral Language Assessment

To select the most appropriate form of

communication for a child (vocal, signing, pointing to or exchanging

pictures, or activating an augmentative device)

To select the communication responses and

supporting skills that should be taught first

The workshop includes the recommended teaching procedures for

those children who have no formal communication skills to those that are near

conversational speakers. Dr. Carbone will also describe and demonstrate

errorless teaching, specific quick-transfer (prompting and fading) procedures,

and the use of both discrete trial training in the natural environment and

during intensive teaching sessions. Multi-media elements will illustrate the

methods of increasing spontaneous language and developing conversational skills.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), experts estimate that 1 in 150 children will have autism. While the

number cannot yet be prevented, the Central Texas Autism Center specializes in

quality applied behavior analysis and verbal behavior treatment to help lessen

the effects of autism on these children as well as offering workshop courses to

better train caretakers.

that work directly with children and families in a beautiful 5,000 sq.

foot center in Austin, Texas. The facility includes a 1,500 square foot

(NET) as well as during Intensive Teaching Trials in the classroom. All

and receive parent training during their child's therapy

session. Learners attend therapy sessions a minimum of 4-15 hours a week

based upon each child’s individualized treatment plan. They also schedule

home/community/school sessions as needed per individual client assessment.
