Guest guest
Had an interesting thing happen in the middle of the night a few days ago. I awoke at 3 a.m. with the room spinning. I could not get my bearings as everything in the room was moving around. I then started vomiting (pretty sure this was due to the room spinning). I did not have a fever (temp 96.1 - normal for me), nor did I have any other flu like symptoms. My neck was sweating profusely and my hands and feet were extremely cold. I have always been normokalemic with my lowest serum K being 3.9 (without tourniquet). On the day I was sick, I did a quick finger stick and my blood sugar was at 89. BP 143/81 right after last vomiting episode. I did get one weird blood sugar reading of 192 at the end of the day I was sick - 3.5 hours after eating a piece of rice bread toast with butter and honey on it (18 hours after vomiting) . . . have not had that kind of reading ever in my history, nor have I had this high a reading since (wondering if this was an error). The rest of my blood sugar readings that day were 89-117. Based on the 192 reading, did an informal glucose tolerance test this week. During this test my fasting blood sugar read was 100 and after ingesting 66 g carbs (5 Tablespoons maple syrup) my blood sugar went up to 109 - 2 hours post ingestion and was at 83- three hours post ingestion. Took a few hours for me to be able to eat the day I was sick. Once I started getting food into me, I felt better. I have be very light headed ever since, but am pushing K foods. Watching my blood sugar all week and it seems to be within normal limits (85-117). Blood pressure this week is labile (as usual)with the lowest reading at 98/56 and the highest reading at 168/91. However, most of my readings this week have been within normal limits. Can a sudden drop in BP trigger the room spinning and vomiting? I do have elevated billirubin at 1.9 (ref 0.2-1.2), maybe this triggered something? Any thoughts? Labile hypertension, PA per Dr. Grim, awaiting Stanford consult, low platelets, elevated billi, elevated hhv-6 antibodies, 3x 24h urine volume, DASHing successfully.
