I wonder if he would do better with something that is time released???? I

don't know a lot about lexapro, but maybe splitting the dose would help it

last later into the evenings??? You might ask the doc.

Just a thought,

Sharon

Hummmm.... My son is on Lexapro too. He's 11 and

has never been on other SSRIs so I don't have a lot to

compare to. Currently my son is dealing with sound

sensitivity (hyperacusis) which makes him very angry

and upset. It seems like the very worst time (meltdown

time!!!) is afterschool (but also that's when my other child

goes into snack mode). So our most difficult time would

be about 4 p.m. I don't know if the problem is the

sound sensitivity or that the Lexapro isn't strong enough.

On the other hand my son seems more lethargic (which

I don't like) and he did tell me he has some trouble

concentrating at school (and he typically doesn't have

problems concentrating).

I realize these meds have different effects on different

people, but this is what I've noticed so far with my

son.

My oldest was quite angry and could not get out of his

angry moods very easily, which is not like him. Paxil

did this to him, and it improved once he went off of

it. I do think that the wrong ssri could cause

increased sound sensitivity/nervousness, etc.

Same here - my son and I both were very angry and had

very dark moods on a couple of SSRIs- I was that way

on Paxil & had to stop within the first two weeks,

Celexa (first form of Lexapro) was almost as bad.

Paxil did ok on my son, but Prozac put him off the

deep end. Effexor and Zoloft were like magic to me,

Zoloft is magic on my son but lowered his auditory

processing some.

Tenex helped counteract some of the negatives, but you

may want to consider trying a different SSRI on your

son - it sounds so close to what we were going thru

when he wasn't on the right SSRI for him.

And I know what that hypersensitivity feels like, and

it's exhausting and a bit overwhelming. I found

improvement by changing SSRIs.

The timing you mentioned is about the same too. ;)

He could also be in kind of a withdrawal from the

removal of milk.

He could be having an incidence of low blood sugar--our daughter would do

this--so we would feed her a bowl of cereal (kind she can have) with vanilla

soymilk--we've learned to catch it before the bad behavior occurs--hope this

helps!

Lexapro was just offered to me Monday. I was also wondering about the

interactions with CMT. For now I am still taking Celexa.

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in

intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can

determine if it is safe to continue using Lexapro.

More common side effects may include:

Constipation, decreased appetite, decreased sex drive, diarrhea,

dizziness, dry mouth, ejaculation disorder, fatigue, flu-like

symptoms, impotence, indigestion, insomnia, nausea, runny nose,

sinusitis, sleepiness, sweating

Less common side effects may include:

Abdominal pain, abnormal dreaming, allergic reactions, blurred

vision, bronchitis, chest pain, coughing, earache, fever, gas,

heartburn, high blood pressure, hot flushes, increased appetite,

irritability, joint pain, lack of concentration, lack of energy, lack

of orgasm, light-headedness, menstrual cramps, migraine, muscle pain,

nasal congestion, neck and shoulder pain, pain in arms or legs,

palpitations, rash, ringing in the ears, sinus congestion, sinus

headache, stomachache, tingling, toothache, tremors, urinary

problems, vertigo, vomiting, weight changes, yawning

If Lexapro is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either

could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important

to check with your doctor before combining Lexapro with the

following:

Carbamazepine (Tegretol)

Cimetidine (Tagamet)

Desipramine (Norpramin)

Drugs that act on the brain, including antidepressants, painkillers,

sedatives, and tranquilizers

Ketoconazole (Nizoral)

Lithium (Eskalith)

Metoprolol (Lopressor)

Narcotic painkillers

Sumatriptan (Imitrex)

Does Lexapro cause weight gain?

In controlled studies, clinically important changes in body weight

were similar for patients treated with Lexapro and those treated with

placebo. If you have concerns about any side effects, you should talk

with your healthcare professional.

I'm experiencing side effects with Lexapro. What do I do?

Side effects with Lexapro are usually mild to moderate and go away

with continued treatment. If you experience side effects while taking

Lexapro, talk to your healthcare professional. For most people, side

effects are mild and go away with time. Do not stop taking Lexapro

unless instructed to do so by your healthcare professional.

Can I take Lexapro with other medicines?

Lexapro has a low risk of interacting with other medicines in

general. One important exception is the family of antidepressants

called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Lexapro and MAOIs should

not be taken together or within 14 days of each other. As with other

medicines in this class (SSRIs), caution is indicated when taking

Lexapro with tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs).

As with other psychotropic drugs that interfere with serotonin

reuptake, patients should be cautioned regarding the risk of bleeding

associated with the concomitant use of Lexapro with NSAIDs, aspirin,

or other drugs that affect coagulation. Before you begin taking

Lexapro, make sure to tell your healthcare professional if you are

taking any other medicines, including over-the-counter medicines,

herbal remedies, diet supplements, etc.

Can I drink alcoholic beverages while taking Lexapro?

As with many other medications, you should avoid drinking alcoholic

beverages while being treated with Lexapro.

I take Lexapro 10 mg a day. I think with chronic pain we should be on an

antidepressant of some kind. Just looked up Lexapro and one of the side effects

is muscle and bone pain and I will be asking my doctor about this...should I be

on this? I think not!
