Guest guest
I don't think a hundred bucks is expensive at all for something that works. It's a heckuva lot cheaper (and healthier) than the hysterectomy I thought I was going to have. Plus, it's a very well-made medical device; I expect it to last my lifetime. It's miles more effective than just doing kegel exercises. As they explain it on the website, just doing kegels is like trying to develop your biceps by curling your arms over and over a few thousand times. Unless you add resistance to the exercise, you're not accomplishing very much. I'm starting to sound like an advertisement--I swear, I'm not selling the things! Guest guest
Barbara, maybe to start you can do the kegels without the equipment? You can definitely do kegels on your own, but I think what Dragonmamma is saying makes sense - eventually, you may need to add resistance. If you just google kegel exercises, I bet you'll find a lot of info on the exercises themselves. Then if it's still a problem, you could invest in the equipment. > > > > > > I personally had a partially prolapsed uterus a few years ago, but I > > > don't think anyone would confuse that with extra weight--it feels more > > > like your insides are falling out (which is exactly what they're doing). > > > > > > Better than a pessary or a hysterectomy is the Kegelmaster2000. Guest guest
Thank you Dragonmamama (Naomi -- but i like dragonmamma) I had a hysterectomy in Dec and since then I've had some very very low level incontinence (the doctor says the hysterectomy moved things around -- maybe my fibroids were holding up my bladder or something?) so I think I'll try it felicity > Barbara, maybe to start you can do the kegels without the equipment? > You can definitely do kegels on your own, but I think what > Dragonmamma is saying makes sense - eventually, you may need to add > resistance. > > If you just google kegel exercises, I bet you'll find a lot of info > on the exercises themselves. Guest guest
Yes, do check out the website. Taking care of urinary incontinence seems to be a much more common reason for ordering the device than uterine prolapse. I wonder how many women are out there who don't want to take exercise classes or work out at a gym or take long walks because they're afraid they'll wet themselves? I've never had an incontinence problem, but I do find myself able to " hold it in " for a much longer period of time than I used to--should appeal to you ladies guzzling your water all day long who get dirty looks from the boss every time you head off to the bathroom. Guest guest
No, you didn't sound critical. Don't apologize, I'm not thin-skinned! I just like to put things in perspective. Let's see, for a hundred bucks you could get 5 pizzas, or go out to the movies with your significant other 5 times, or buy something that will keep you from peeing your pants for the rest of your life. Decisions, decisions! Guest guest
LOL....excpet I'm not eating pizza and don't have a significant other Well, I don't have a permanent significant other....lol. I've not had a peeing problem, but suspect I am having a little of the other trouble that you discussed. I am trying to make an appointment with dr. to check it out. If the dr agrees that I am 'saggin' in areas that would be best not to, I might cough up the bucks, since you recommend it so highly. Guest guest
Good perspective. Or you could just wait until you're in your late 40's, get a nasty cold, and discover during a coughing fit that this might just be a good idea after all. Just doing kegals by themselves didn't work that well for me. Maybe it works better if you're young and the muscle's still in prime shape (anyone here over 40 remember what their rear looked like at 20 and how it looked before you started doing lunges?) But I think it's human nature to wait until there's a problem before looking for a solution. I got kegal " weights " on the advice of the nurse at the birthing clinic and those worked really well. Weird to talk about this, isn't it? --- DRAGONMAMMA wrote: > > No, you didn't sound critical. Don't apologize, I'm > not thin-skinned! I just like to put things in > perspective. Guest guest
The weirdness wore off for me last year when I was having a " private " discussion about it with someone at my bookclub meeting--all of a sudden everyone was like " What the heck are you two talking about? " and next thing I know I'm giving an impromptu lecture and pantomime demonstration on using the Kegelmaster. I think it was one of our more memorable meetings. (Plus, the book was interesting. We were discussing " Granny D. " , a biography about a 90-some year old lady who walked across America.) This is exactly the sort of thing that women need to discuss with each other, rather than clamming up out of embarassment.
