Sorry I

can’t help with the specifics of what they should be made from but pricewise

I got mine from ABACA (there’s a link on the TA website somewhere) –

it’s much cheaper than the others and I’m very pleased with it. We have

it on the floor so it’s probably as cheap as a normal children’s

cheap bed!

Anyone using an antimony free mattress - advice on

which type?

Hi everyone

Happy New Year to you all. Hope everyone had a peaceful break.

I am currently looking at antimony free mattresses and have found two

types - am looking for experience of anyone who currently sleeps on

one - what are they like, what firmness should I get, should I go for

latex or latex and coir

Healthy House do an organic latex double for £845

Origohome do a latex and coir for £570

It's such a lot of money to spend on a mattress I'd appreciate

feedback from anyone who has used either type.

Thanks

Zoe

Hi Zoe

I'd also recommend the abaca

http://www.abacaorganic.co.uk/pricing.html we have just bought

another snowdon pocket sprung - this time a single for Eddie. Also

available from Healthy House - http://www.healthy-

house.co.uk/products/product321.php

Eddie is high in antimony and has so many allergies (but is now

improving) we have replaced all the bedding. We're really happy with

everything so in case it's useful here's a quick summary.

These old fashioned mattresses are the best I've ever slept on It is

completely free of chemicals and very comfy. The only problem we had

was the weight - it was a struggle upstairs with the double. We also

needed to put extra slats on the bed because the instructions say

they should be closely spaced (an inch of less if I remember

correctly).

I use the mattress pad from the Healthy House http://www.healthy-

house.co.uk/products/morpheus_cotton_mattress_pad.php and the

organic blankets (the doubles are king-sized and a bit too big),

pillows http://www.healthy-

house.co.uk/products/organic_wool_pillow.php and sheets. They wash

really well and are really comfy. I wash everything before I use it -

usually at least twice. I tumble dried the blankets and sheets a

couple of times too to de-fluff them. The mattress pad does shrink a

bit - so I was at 40degrees (it says you can wash hotter but I would

be careful).

Best wishes,

Sandy

Thanks Sandy that's really helpful. Good to get the low down from

someone who's used one.
