Guest guest
Hi all, hope everyone had a nice, relaxing mother's day! My little girl ended up with a headache, chest pain, really bad cough last wednesday and fevers from 102-103. Today she is finally fever free. She went to the peds. on thurs and was put on antibiotics incase it was bacterial but they were unsure what it was. they did a throat culture and sent it out. The immunologist said that if she still had a high fever by sat. she needed to go to the ER to be checked out. She was unable to get her friday hizentra infusion because of her fever they said. Saturday we went to the ER with her and they put a tube down her nose for a viral panel, chest x-ray was neg. blood tests were normal just a low white count which she always has, and they gave her IV fluids because she was dehydrated. Saturday night she deveoloped myositis of the back of her knees and calves that they said was viral. She was in so much pain that she couldn't walk. She either crawled or I carried her. Sunday night I got a call from the hospital that her viral panel showed flu b and monday am I got a call from her peds. doc that she also has strep. On monday the Immuno told us that if her temp was below 101 we could go ahead and give her the hizentra anyway to help her get better. During the day she was only 100.3 so I hurried up and gave it to her. She was so exhausted that day that she fell asleep after her treatment and slept from 1:30pm until 6:00pm when I finally woke her up and then she went back to bed at 8:00pm. By today she finally has no temp and her legs are fine! She is just left with a really bad cough. These 2 infections things really kicked her butt. She didn't touch any food wed-mon and is finally eating little bits today. She did constantly drink. I have to say this was scary for us. She has had many infections that lasted forever prior to the Hizentra but this was the first time that she was down for the count and sooooo exhausted without eating or even touching her barbies. Now aware that she has an immune deficiency I was really worried how her body would react esp. without her Hizentra. Obviously our kids on treatments can still get sick, but was a little surprised how sick she was and with the flu and strep on top of it. Was wondering if anyone has missed a full hizentra dose during an illness and did it make it harder to heal. I don't know how long it takes to be out of your system and was worried how to get her back on track and if it will set her back to build up her antibodies again ?! Thanks, (mom of 6 year ol Madeline)
