We started Valtrex May 19th and everything was fine, but now our 4.3

year old has had the above symptoms for two days and we're not sure

what to do. His DAN! doctor, Kurt Woeller, is away on vacation and

his pediatrician wants to start him on anti-biotics, even though he

tested negative for strep. He said that it could be a false

negative and we should start the anti-biotics until the test can be

cultured a few more days and tell us for sure whether it's strep or

not. He thinks it is, because of the " strep rash " on ny's

belly. But ny often gets rashes that WE attribute to metal

excretion (we've been using TD-DMPS), so I think our pediatrician

may have just leapt to judgement there and made up his mind the

symptoms fit strep. What does everyone think?

ny had a big blowout of diarrea this morning, which is atypical

of his normal-to-constipated system. We brought in a stool sample

and our pediatrician agreed to test it, but only for bacteria. He

said that if you test for viruses, you have to have a particular one

in mind to look for.

We don't want to give the anti-biotics like we have in the past for

strep, especially unconfirmed strep, but ny is about to take

part in a hyperbarics study and we'd hate for that to be jeopardized

by illness. We need some advice from Stan and the folks who've been

on Valtrex longer than we have.

Thanks,

Kim Bowman, Phoenix
