Guest guest
That's how I do it! Although I alternate. One session I do the one minute intense, one minute medium intense (HIT) and then the next session I do the cardio solution as per the book. It makes the workouts challenging and different. Hopefully also challenging my body and not adapting. question on the Cardio workouts...Good Morning All,During the Cardio workouts is it correct to have one minuteof high intensity then 1 minute med for a total of 20minutes?I acheived this last night and it was my first time doing acardio workout like that and it ROCKED!I seated like a maniac and pushed myself ....really hard myonly concern is am I doing it right? Guest guest
What you did is a form of HIIT (high intensity interval training) which is excellent. Bill suggests the 20 minute aerobic solutionwhich starts at moderate and increases the intensity a notch each minute until you have a 9, approximately 5 minutes, then returning to moderate and repeating. This is done for four peaks or high points with the last one increasing the intensity to a 10 before dropping to a moderate intensity for your cool down. Guest guest
Naomi, sounds like you haven't read the book. if not you should try to pick up a copy. Amazon and and Noble have it as well as all major bookstores. it is easy reading yet is packed with good stuff. Kit
Guest guest
I remember that passage and I remember trying it a couple of times. I remember closing my eyes and zoning out and giving it my all. You are right it does work. I just forgot about doing it.... I was sick for a week and didn't do any cardio, and kind of lost all thought process then and am still trying to get back to normal . I will have to remember to do it on Monday when I hit my 10 again. Thanks for the reminder! Re: question on the Cardio workouts...I've found one of the passages from the book to be very enlightening regarding the level 10 intensity on the cardio workouts. Bill says something to the effect of " Just relax your body into the exercise and think of yourself as a well-oiled machine pumping at maximum capacity. " I've found that when I get to level 10, I have a natural tendency to tense up and start wondering if I can make it for a full minute. If I consciously try to relax my muscles and revel in the fact that I'm able to put out that level of effort, I get a lot of joy from it and can make it through that minute with a smile on my face! I think about that passage in the book every time now as a reminder to just relax and pump out the maximum effort. Jarel
Guest guest
Hi ! Hi Jarel! I agree that the following point is a great one to keep in mind...but I don't remember it from the book. I *do* remember it from the Hussman site, http://www.hussman.com/eas in the Workouts section. Here are the words: <<Try not to " tighten up " during your 10. Relax into it, smile, and visualize yourself as a well-oiled motor. You'll get more power, and you'll reduce the cardiovascular resistance that way.>> It is helpful advice, definitely. --- FMBC: Fitness and the Mind-Body Connection an unofficial Transformation Support site and " on ramp " for Body-for-LIFE by Cherita and Axel http://fitmind.home.mindspring.com > I remember that passage and I remember trying it a couple of times. Guest guest
I think you're right ! I guess the Hussman site and the book have morphed into a single entity in my mind! Guest guest
In a message dated brandyvideo@... writes: but one last question on a machine that has intensity 1-20 is the "10" actually 20? and a 9 actually 18 and so on? No. The 10 and 9 that are referred to are levels of intensity. They don't relate to anything other than yourself. I don't know what machine you are referring to, but you might reach a 9 or 10 when your machine says 6 or 13. The point is, you determine what the 9's and 10's are. Remember, you start exercising at level 5. This is YOUR level 5. Then, so that you can reach YOUR level 6, you increase the resistance of the machine. You do this until you reach your level 10. As you continue through the weeks, your strength and endurance will increase and so will your intensity levels. Your level 5 will be achieved by starting at a correspondingly higher resistance. OK? If this doesn't make sense, drop me an e mail. All the best, Leaner.
Guest guest
Naomi, if you can do level 20 for a minute without gasping and just being able to finish it's a 10 for you. If you can only do level 8 for a minute without gasping and are just able to finish then that is a 10 for you. Adjust accordingly. As you get in better cardio shape your personal 10 will increase based on the intensity you use on the machine. Kit
