I have written to him 3 times and he has never responded. Cub has written twice -- to let him know about his website and his efforts to help others understand AS children -- and he has never responded. I can't even begin to guess at what the reasons are for not answering a child who states clearly he is a child and that he is helping other Asplings and their parents in his own AS way. My letters were a bit raw and painful, as the isuues and my confusion were new. All of his responses mentioned the purchase of some material of his. His sister in law has AS and maybe it was literally my gender that got a response. I also refered to the materials of his I did read and I am sure I appealed to his ego. In any case I forwarded the letter to pose the position of a lack of emotional barometer, too cold too hot. My gage is sometimes broken. In my head I say to myself pull back pull way back. It is a defence mechanism when I have gotten too involved with a person or situation. I am mostly solitary except for this forum, my children and 3 men 2 ex husbands and my current Boyfriend. kind of an odd collection. I am burnt out on social interaction as I mostly have friendships with men, and they always turn on me, woman tend to compete with me. I have had perhaps 5 female friends in my life. I do know there are others with AS who have written him and been ignored also unless they compliment him, or somehow support him or want to assist him or volunteer for his research projects. I told him of my early childhood and he said that what I described was " very consistent with AS " . About a year later someone on a list [can't remember which one] wrote that he had stopped writing personal e-mails due to the volume of e-mails he was receiving. The e-mail Mimi got seemed to me to be a form letter of some kind. It certainly is not anything like the e-mail he sent me. He even offered to meet me at a conference he was going to be at in my area. It was too far away for me to get to, though.
