Guest guest
Do you have a health portion of PPT? If not, call a PPT and invite your health care professional-Physician APRN(which is what we do), the school nurse. Have a part of the PPT allocated to direct nursing care for your child and put you goals for the medical portion of your child's PPT in writing to be included in the PPT, as well as your goals for the autism and other learning problems. You can call a PPT anytime. I did so and no longer have problems with the absences- My son has PID, Autism and multiple medical issues as well. Guest guest
Ok thanks. I worry so much that they will just try to not have to deal with all this, and will just try to kick my child out of school. Hopefully they can’t legally do this. I am also worried about them not having a good relationship with me now (I feel that is important), and worried how they will treat my child now. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Ladden Sent: Friday, August 25, 2006 12:27 PM Subject: RE: [bULK] Question PPT is the actual meeting you can call to have your IEP revised so that you can add a medical portion of the IEP ________________________________ From: groups (DOT) <mailto:%40> com [mailto:groups (DOT) <mailto:%40> com] On Behalf Of Carie Sent: Friday, August 25, 2006 3:25 PM groups (DOT) <mailto:%40> com Subject: RE: [bULK] Question Importance: Low What is a PPT? Guest guest
A good relationship and not adversarial, is important to me as well, considering my son's developmental disabilities. tHat is why I invite not only my son's developmental APRN from his ped's office, but also my DMR caseworker, my team for his after school behavioral program and the school nurse. I write everything that I have concerns about and want to see done and present a copy to everyone at the PPT. There is a 4 page addition to the IEP called a medical IEP that I review with the school nurse and make changes if necessary before signing. I make sure he is getting at least one hour per week direct nursing in the IEP L ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Carie Sent: Friday, August 25, 2006 3:39 PM Subject: RE: [bULK] Question Importance: Low Ok thanks. Guest guest
It allows for G tube feedings, daily checking to make sure no wheezing, etc. Making sure there are no scrapes and bruises that require cleaning Neosporin with dressing, direct contact to me and the ped office if something doesn't look quite right. I send updated med sheets and what is new medically going on with the child-lately that has been every day. If the child didn't seem 'quite right' when he left on the bus, she checks him periodically during the day and check back with me. She helps when we get new AFO's and checks for skin breakdowns and treats, if so. She directs the staff on proper hand washing and 's work site care. Checks for illnesses going through the school and sends home note or calls. Watches for aspiration issues during feeding therapy sessions, etc. Treats the ever present diaper area fungal and burning rashes, etc It is direct nursing care. The IEP section for nurse lists all of 's problems and risks and protocols for treatment and assessment. It is verty detailed. ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Carie Sent: Friday, August 25, 2006 3:47 PM Subject: RE: [bULK] Question Importance: Low What does the nurse do during the 1 hour of direct nursing per week?
