Aware or not aware, are you aware of your differences? I don’t think I am. Well when others have made comments in the past, especially younger like: Well he’s…whisper whisper Or those darn I.E.P meetings. Also that one time in one meeting autism was brought up and a teacher made a ferocious response that seemed like devastating response about autism and they suspecting I had

it. Well I know that I am not like others, but I don’t concern myself with it. I don't really know how others are "inside" to compare, I'd suspect people are similar yet perhaps this is over thinking it. I don’t really know what is “wrong” or what is different really.. Autism or Autism Spectrum is just a labels. So I don't really know what it is the issue is. I have to write a paper explaining myself for vocational rehabilitation I signed up for. The idea is to be able to participate in something, rather then being inside most of the time. Not sure what to

say. New Songhttp://www.aspergershosting.com/audio/Onwah.wma

I was certainly not aware of my differences in the past - it is only

when they were and are pointed out to me.

I am now aware of my lack of eye contact and try my best to do it,

but still don't understand it - I think I have got better, but have

no way of knowing without asking.

I am now aware of my tendency to take things literally - still

happens though :-(

I think I was probably treat differently as a child by some, but I

did not understand why - I didn't realise I was different. I found

out though through some bad experiences just how different I was

though :-( I wasn't a typical little girl, but I did not know that at

the time - I wasn't socially adept and I did not know how to

manipulate, unfortunately some of the little girls around me did and

at the time I did not understand it - but I was shocked at the

injustices and lies they told.

On one level I was aware of being different, of feeling different

but not really sure why. I knew I was generally treated like an

outsider and during high school the people I made friends with were

concidered outsiders as well.

But of the specifics I really didn't recognize lots of things till

they are pointed out to me.

I once had a big argument with this lady who used to be friendly

with me. My husband tried to intervine and he told this woman " Ilah

really doesn't do well with hints. " [big argument started because I

did something she had been hinting she didn't want me to do.] I had

not really realized it before.

Another time my husband got upset over something I said and I didn't

undestand why. After a short discussion with him it turns out that

sometimes my voice will sound sarcastic or mean when I don't intend

it to or realize that is what is happening.

Also when I first read about not making eye contact I didn't think

that applied to me, but know I realize I often talk to people

without even looking directly at thier face.

Sorry couldn't help laughing - this happens to me all the time :-) my

son thought I was been sarcastic today when I told him the cats would

be happy that I had bought cat food and I was being serious, wish I

knew how to change my tone of voice :-( I've also been told I can

come across mean when I have absolutely no intention of being so. If

I intended to be mean or sarcastic I actually point out that I am

being so - I spell it out :-)

" Also when I first read about not making eye contact I didn't think

Most of my family are like this - other people have no idea whom we

are addressing :-)

I can do a little eye contact now, especially if I am comfortable with

a person, but I never know whether I am getting it right - I do

sometimes make an effort with non aspies as a sign of respect if they

are respectful of me.

I've done that they find it really unsettling, sort of like talking

in their faces, its great when you know someone is lying to you.

Stare at them and watch them squirm.
