A Snow Day in Altus

We woke up this morning to a mantle of snow, white glistening snow falling softly to cover our cars, patios , the streets. The roofs of the houses looked like something out of a Christmas Card. I got up and since we have direct tv with no local channels, I called my neighbor to see if we would have school because my oldest foster son came in and said he had heard from one of his friends we had no school. Sure enough he was correct and I started dreading the day because I would be trapped in the house with 4 very active children, 2 pre-teens and 2 teenagers. My husband decided to take a day of leave today because he told his supervisor " I don't do snow". LOL Mostly I think he thought it would be cool to play with the kids in the snow. So right there my day would be a whole lot better. He could handle the kids. Then I decided heck why not enjoy the day with the kids. I told them lets find the Christmas tree( I have a store bought one ) and the ornaments and put it up. At first they thought it was a pretty lame idea. But after they had played in the snow till their noses, fingers, and toes were so cold they couldn't get them warm didn't sound like such a bad idea after all. I got the ingredients out for hot chocolate with marshmallows of course. They sat up the tree and drank hot chocolate while I prepared a brunch of cheese omelets, turkey sausage( of course, it has less fat in it. I had to do something healthy. LOL and biscuits with butter and honey. My husband got out the Christmas Cd's and we listened and danced to the music while we were putting up the tree. Nothing is sweeter than watching your husband dance with his 11 year old daughter. She standing on her tippy toes to put her arms about his

neck. Through our french doors of our house we could see the continuing falling snow, accumulate on the patio and on the bottom panes of the doors. I got out the makings for gingerbread men and I started mixing it while they were having a snow ball fight in the front yard. While listening to the soft sweet music of this holiday time. Softly humming to my favorite tunes. For the afternoon I stirred a pot of hot cider with cinnamon sticks and cloves for a warm drink for them when they got in. I put my cookie dough in the freeze and prepared a area for the girls to roll out the dough and cut their gingerbread men and women. It was a day of no TV, lots of laughter and fun. I felt warm and very loved surrounded by my family today. It became too cold for them to play out doors so they came in and we got the board

game Cranium out and played it all afternoon and evening. A couple of neighbors dropped by and had Chili and cornbread with us as we played, tasted our hot cider and proclaimed it a perfect drink on a cold snowy day. Chili was sent home with them for neighbors that couldn't get out, and they dropped it off on their way home. Complete with a slice of my famous sweet cornbread. Cookies were cutted into gingerbread men and women and baked and declared a complete sucess. Now I sit here at this computer and smile because this was not a planned day, it just happened. But was definately one for my memory book. We laughed, we played, we danced what more can you ask for?? Tommorow is another snow day. I await the joy!! Love Janet Take the ordinary things of life, and make them your own. Do the impossible with a smile __________________________________________________
