Guest guest
I have been pondering the merits ($$$) of going back to work full-time so that I can put my son in a private specialized school where I think he may get better in a more supportive and therapuetic environment for his needs. To make a long story short I am starting to feel that the fragmented care he is getting in public education is not going to be sufficient. I am a nurse, not a teacher, and moreover I am not a special ed teacher. My son has a high IQ, but is also learning disabled, and I don't think I can give him a home education that would allow him to reach his potential (not enough faith in myself as a teacher). I have and can continue to advocate in the public school sysystem, but am feeling the pressure that time places on the arduous process of getting " the best " in a public school system. IDEA laws provide for a minimum standard that I may not personally hold. The problem is that I don't know what to do about the kids care around a school schedule. I have 2 school aged children and wouldn't know what to do with them in the summer. Specialized camp would really be out of our reach financially - especially since I have another child (6 yrs old) to arrange for as well. While on the subject of childcare, how do any of you go out at night - special sitters ect??? I have some family help, but as I am sure that you know, some help never quite covers it. Thanks, Bonnie
