Hi,

I have been reading the posts here for a couple of weeks, I am so glad

I found this board.

My 10 yr old son has OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and

Depression. His OCD is very much about the compulsions, bad thoughts

running over and over in his mind. And the confessing every little

thing he's ever done wrong to me. He is worried he is going to hell

(for little things). He just has such negative thoughts, and low self

esteem. School is such a struggle. We have an IEP meeting next week.

He is on Buspar(Busiprone) and Risperdal. (Over the past 2 years, he

has tried lots of dif. medicines).

He is also in therapy, shich seems to be going okay.

Recently I have been trying some visualization therapy with him, to

try to get him to relax and control his breathing, does anyone have

any experience with this? Any book recommendations? (or cds?)

My heart is breaking that my son

s life is so hard for him, it's really hard to stay positive every

day. It seems like 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

I'm sure I am just tired tonight, so everything seems worse than

usual, just wondering if any other moms out there feel this way.

Thanks for listening!

R.

Hi R,

You've come to the right place, everyone hear understands your pain as

your heart breaks for you son. We have all felt that too. It is hard

to be a parent of a child with OCD, my daughter also suffers from

anxiety and depression like your son.

The parents and moderators on this site are a godsend. Best wishes to

you and your son, hope you find relief soon.

Hi R, welcome to the group! My OCDer is now 17, but it all began

for us back when he began 6th grade around age 11.5.

" 1 step forward, 2 steps back " - oh, a very familiar feeling! But

any step forward is progress, remember that.

This year my son began worrying with bad thoughts and his seem to

center around religion, is going through scrupulosity type OCD. I'm

sure he's worrying about going to hell too. When his OCD first

began, there were the physical rituals and compulsions; and right

now, those seem easier to deal with (for me) being visual than these

unseen/unknown thoughts he's dealing with. (He won't talk about

them, but then he wouldn't talk much about his OCD before either.)

Has your son tried any of the OCD meds yet? We only tried the

Celexa, he was on that for 2 grades and it helped. He's on no meds

now, wanted to come off and try " med free " and doesn't want to go

back on any, even with all he's dealing with now.

If you need any help re school issues, you'll get LOTS of

thoughts/experience from here. We didn't get an IEP for my son, but

did set up a 504 Plan for him to use with accommodations and

modifications for school and schoolwork. It really helped ease a

lot of stress re schoolwork and grades, but those were rough years!

He hasn't used the plan at all since beginning high school!

Well, gotta get to work but wanted to say " hi! "

Hi! I'm fairly new here too, and I'm learning so very much in the

short time I've been reading posts here. My daughter is 11 and was

diagnosed with OCD this past August. Your son's issues mirror that

of Becca's, especially the telling me everything. She's not on any

meds right now; I'm trying some natural treatments to see if there's

improvement. She sees a therapist every three weeks, and the doctor

says she's seeing steps forward, so that's positive!

This last visit the doctor started some visualization therapy

techniques with Becca. When she has the thoughts or dares, she is to

visulize them boarding a cruise ship and sailing away from her. When

she has the dares, she now is to tell me, " I saw a cruise ship. "

I also notice that her thoughts/dares come on a bit more when she

knows a dr. visit is coming up. So this time I'm not to tell her

when her appt. is until that morning, so we can see if the dares

subside.

Good luck with your son. I certainly know about how tiring staying

positive can be sometimes. But know that we're all here to support

one another as best we can as we travel down this road.

Take Care,
