Guest guest
What exactly is the basket hold? I have a picture in my head, but I would rather know for sure exactly, what it is. Is there any web site that has a video or pictures that demonstrate it? Also, how do you go about ensuring that there is staff trained to use this method? Can I ask to see “official” certification documentation? And I know that one of my biggest hurdles to get over with all this is that “they” – any school personnel, past and present – will argue the fact that my son, now 13 yrs old (although very small for his age) is extremely strong and has actually done very well in wrestling (which makes any altercations to contain him that much harder), and a basket type hold will probably be an impossibility. On the other hand, I have stated (and documented) numerous times, that any physical contact with him will only make matters worse, yet it has continued to happen (although much less at his newest school – maybe once or twice since October 2006 – a record I think). So if the basket hold is not something that will work with him, and they are in a situation where they absolutely need to use some form of restraint (one thing I can think of is if he was to run out of the school and is heading towards the main road (which the school is on) and it is a very busy business type road in the center of a mostly business type town), what could they do? That everyone involved would feel comfortable with. Note: the school has been looking for a new location that is far from a “main” road for this very reason. Not that any of the kids have gotten hurt on the busy road, but as I learned and anticipated, it could and is a major issue the school needs to address. Thanks again, . Guest guest
In Conn it is at the schools discretion if and when they will do a basket hold or any hold for that matter and not notified a parent. My 8 y.o daughter came home with bruises on her elbow upper arm and had a sprained wrist from a basket hold. It is disgusting what they can get away with in Conn. We have just gone to legislation to get this changed along with putting children in padded rooms.
