Guest guest
Many of the band aids and such to contain latex..but J has not had reactions to other latex products without the adhesive component. Did you see the info about the test you can get the doctor to do/run to see if it is the adhesive portion (can't remember the chemical name!) ~Pattie~ " What matters is not great deeds, but great love. Guest guest
Pattie, Scanned it quick....can't remember the name....sounded awful interesting tho.... I just threw out the latex issue, cuz of my RN background....something that I think of in the preop area.... I actually had a pt who was recently dx withlatex and the OR wasn't aware and had set up the case, so we switched pts around....so there is a lot of latex out there. Hope ph's back is better....don't know what to think...sending Hugs your way too! adhesive reactions this is interesting to me..........I have had reactions to tegaderm, covaderm, some bandaids, steri strips, etc etc etc.........the reaction is always the same, and appears as water blisters all over the covered area. Guest guest
Conner has this same reaction with most tapes, bandaids and tegaderm. The adhesive basically peels his skin off and makes the area bright red. It has been a real stressor for him as peeling off these things typically causes more pain and anxiety than the actual procedure. If anyone comes up with a solution, please let me know! Guest guest
I find this interesting-ph's skin doesn't peel off with the tape or bandage-- it looks like a sunburn.a chemical burn. a REALLY bad sunburn. Then it scabs. does anyone else have a child whose skin does this? It scabs over instead of " peeling " like some sunburns would.. ~Pattie~ " What matters is not great deeds, but great love. Guest guest
Cole and myself have the same reaction to adhesives. We can have the surgical tape on for merely a half hour or so and it will definitely leave a painful burn mark that will harden (scab) over and take a couple or several days to disappear. I always tell the docs/nurses that we are NOT allergic to latex. The one time I did mention the reaction to the adhesive the nurse humored me and gave me some pat response about how it happens to most people. HUH? Does that seem right? Should I be mentioning the adverse reaction to the adhesive every time Cole or I are due to be exposed? (I actually have to go have an upper GI on Monday, so more tape is coming!) I have noticed that we seem to do alright with some BANDAID brand bandaids. -Rogena (Mom to 4 boys, including Cole -Partial IgA Def, GERD, possible Celiac) -- In , " Pattie Curran " <catholicmomof3@...> wrote: > > I find this interesting-ph's skin doesn't peel off with the tape or > bandage-- it looks like a sunburn.a chemical burn. a REALLY bad sunburn. > Then it scabs. does anyone else have a child whose skin does this? Guest guest
Ask them to use skin prep prior to using the tape and starting the IVs, etc. it really does help. It is definitely not normal. I have never had a mark from a band aid! As the Cajuns say, I have had gradu from the bandaids (sticky residue) but never had a burn or scab or scar... ~Pattie~ " What matters is not great deeds, but great love.
