Guest guest
While my daughter was on it she continued to gain weight the entire time. Her doctor added Topamax to her meds for anxiety and fortunately it has a side affect of weight loss. She's lost 80 lbs so far much of that the Risperdol weight gain. This is bad news for . He's actually been on risperdol for 7 weeks, but the extreme appetite didn't start until he tapered off the celexa. Before that, he ate more than usual, but he didn't eat non-stop. Tamara

I can't wait to see the new p-doc on Tuesday. How long did your daughter stay on risperdol? Did she go off of it because of the weight? Did she feel so much better mentally that it was worth staying on it? It just doesn't seem like a tolerable side effect, at least for . Hi Louis, On Tuesday, I will definitely ask about other options. Does your son eat voraciously, non-stop, or has his eating settled down? Is he self- conscious about the weight? has always been so thin and active, I didn't think he'd be one of the kids who gains a lot of weight. Guest guest
My daughter (now 13 yrs old) took Risperdal for several years and was constantly hungry while taking it. She not only craved carbohydrates more than usual but actually felt hungry no matter how much she ate. She didn't gain any weight on it until she went through puberty and then it started to creep up on her. For various reason we switched her to Abilify a little over a year ago, and it is working much better for her. The constant hunger is gone, the carb cravings are a little better, and it works even better for her tics than Risperdal did. For those of you who are struggling with serious weight gain on Risperdal, this is an option you might want to discuss with your child's doctor. Best wishes, in NV
