Re:

0 Gram Ammonia Diet

I really don't understand what this is all about. The

doctor gives me Lactulose to bring my blood ammonia down, now she wants to check

my calcium too? I've been in a fog for a while now - doesn't hurt, just

have to learn some new coping methods. What can happen if I don't take

the Lactulose? Coma? Death? Why? Symptoms please.

My specialist will only be seeing me every 6 months since

we can't treat & I won't have a TP. I think he's pissed cause I won't

jump through his hoops

Hey thanks De, printed out some stuff, looks like a good site. As for Dr Idiot (my personal nickname for him) - I'm glad he's pissed with me. It has been my goal in life lately to piss this guy off, now I know he's noticed me. He refered me to the gastro so I'll have to make an appointment with him later. SuZie,

Believe me I'm not happy about the diet. Save the jellybeans I really like all the other things. It's already literally a life of diarrhea with the lactulose. Most days I go between 6 and 10 times a day. If I'm not going I pass gas that would stop traffic.

When I DON'T take the lactulose I notice a REAL difference and it's not fun bouncing off walls, taking 3 steps up a staircase and falling backwards, being really confused, watching television and not "getting it", losing hand coordination, muscle tremors and sometimes speech impairment.

Hepatic encephalopathy has Stages and when one gets to Stage 3 you don't drive anymore. I'm very much afraid of that. I love to drive and have driven over 2 million miles. My paternal grandmother instilled in me the notion that one of the most evident examples of the freedom we enjoy is the freedom of movement. Should I ever get there, along with the other effects of HE, it's time for me to check out.

There are so many insipid side effects of this disease, many of which I endure, but this HE is one of the worst.

Allan with 2 L's please pass the Charmin (yes the kind with the lotion)
