Guest guest
I don't have any problem letting it lie. My point was simply to explain how the business system works. I haven't been able to keep up with posts as well lately due to illness and my computer having crashed. Right now I'm using my mother's old thing and only come online once per day instead of my customary several times per day. Discussion is one thing, letting it get personal and insulting is something else.

Next week though I get to have more fun. I went back to the dentist to have my teeth checked and now he says that another tooth, maybe two, needs to come out. I told him that when I had the last one taken out, but he didn't think it was necessary. The problem with these teeth goes back to when I had braces in high school. The terminal teeth, the backmost ones, had metal bands put around them to anchor the braces. Almost all of my teeth were messed up by the braces and those four got it the worst. They are all sensitive and have practically no enamal left on them. I'm tempted to just have all three that are left pulled. That won't be fun, but it will be a lot less pain and worry in the long run. Still, I'm going to wait until Tuesday when I go to the oral surgeon and ask him how bad the recovery might be and all that. Just have to wait and see. Guest guest
Inger, with all due respect, I didn't *stomp* or *pick on* at all, beyond standard compare and contrast the statement he made, which I found uproariously funny, because of a lifetime of experience that's easily explained as to why the statement is dead wrong, which is precisely what I did, in no uncertain terms, in a non-insulting debate manner. If you or took offense at my debating such a statement (and please note I even provided more than one side to find positives and negatives to the concept involved) without ever even implying anyone was stupid (beyond someone reading between the lines with the ROFLMAO, which simply is an opinion: there are people that find mathematical rounding errors funny, such as the time a high school math teacher of mine demonstrated by using a correct method that ..999=1) then it's clear that having emotions and expressing them is considered to be illegal in this group, at least so far as it goes against some whim of a moderator or someone who screams loudly, who is looking to be offended by the least little thing. I suppose if I'd said " I find that statement to be laughable and here is why " you'd *still* get your panties in a knot, yet that is *exactly* what I did, in great detail. I wasn't picking on : I was dissecting and debating the one sentence I picked out: I could have chosen to pick out more to debate, but that one was so far out there I felt I had to respond and explain how the logic was flawed, lest such logic should lead people down the road to Hell paved with good (or other) intentions. And, just for the record, I expressed *zero* political leanings in my reply: it was a matter that was completely apolitical that I covered, since human beings and machines don't have politics with each other involved (this isn't Battle Star Galactica and the Cylons, after all) and I never stated anything about policy of anything related to government. If you re-read my statement with everything I said in mind, and you *still* think I was out of line, don't pussyfoot around with putting me in permanent moderation: it's clear that there's favoritism here, and if anyone should dare to logically debate something and express even a little bit of their personality that rubs someone the wrong way, that they will be swatted down: if that's the way it's going to be, don't put me on moderation, simply unsubscribe me completely, because I refuse to play psychological mind power games where someone is trying to control how and what I think. Where one person can state ideas of their own without others debating them if they feel they are wrong without immediate fear of being shot down by moderators is no place of discussion: it is merely a place for serial monologues by many people on differing ideas that don't overlap: it's just a bunch of people stepping up on a virtual soapbox with a large virtual audience that's captive and gagged from speaking their minds until they themselves are up on that same soapbox, with no opportunity to speak out on anything other than their own singular thoughts. Well, I now leave it in the hands of the moderators as to what happens next. If the least bit of demonstration of a logical emotion (being highly entertained with an assertion that a lifetime of experience has demonstrated is pure silliness at best, deadly delusion at worst) complete with logical debate/argument is completely disallowed at the whim of someone, then this isn't a place that allows me to be remotely human. I'm more than wise enough to know I can't force anyone else to change their minds: I can only present evidence and allow them the choice of evaluating it in whatever manner they choose, and acting on it one way or another. Inger, if you still think I was out of line with that post debating 's claim, I insist the only logical course of action that will serve everyone best is to unsubscribe me. > > May I suggest that the three of you agree to disagree on this one? Guest guest
Strict, My recommendation to cool it was not just to you. The bit about politics was pertaining to 's reply to , which I made perfectly clear. As for you, it was just a warning this time. Everyone is free to debate but - as I've said before - you have lately adopted a debating style that is often more aggressive than we are used to and tolerate on this forum. (You clearly crossed a line with Kajira a while back, though I was offline then.) Your last post to was probably the most non-offensive so far - and as usual had many a good point - but it still seems to me that you have something against him personally? So I just wanted to give you fair warning, that's all. If anything further needs to be done in this case, I leave it to the other admins to decide, or Tom when he gets back. Guest guest
Inger, How you read that I had something against personally is something that completely puzzles me, and is purely your interpretation. If I have something against personally, it is definitely not something I'm consciously aware of. > > Strict, > > My recommendation to cool it was not just to you. Guest guest
Hi Strict, Tom's back. You said... " ...then it's clear that having emotions and expressing them is considered to be illegal in this group, at least so far as it goes against some whim of a moderator or someone who screams loudly, who is looking to be offended by the least little thing. " Strict, I am thankful to see you participating more, but I do wish you would take a closer look at HOW I am running these groups. You haven't seen me on the big web boards (except 's) because I no longer like posting environments where people slather on derrogatory adjectives when replying to posts or when they throw in ridicule (overt, covert, or tacit). I would like my forums to be a place where anyone can state their opinions and be allowed to do so ESPECIALLY if they have been attacked elsewhere. For some people, it's enough for them to just state what's on their minds, and for others to hear them and respect their views, even if they don't agree with them, is enough. " If you re-read my statement with everything I said in mind, and you *still* think I was out of line, don't pussyfoot around with putting me in permanent moderation: it's clear that there's favoritism here,... " Yes and no. I don't think anyone sides with anyone else based on what their opinion is, but the truth is, the more I see someone being picked on on other forums, the more I allow them to have a voice here. And I do have access to all of them. AI, AFF, WrongPlanet, etc. What I've found is that when folks are treated with respect, they behave quite well on this fourm. Conversely, I've discovered when people are NOT treated with respect, they have a tendency to post here with fists out ready to swing. " ...and if anyone should dare to logically debate something and express even a little bit of their personality that rubs someone the wrong way, that they will be swatted down: if that's the way it's going to be, don't put me on moderation, simply unsubscribe me completely,... " You assume here that Inger is attacking your personality. She's not. Ot was your verbiage. If you notice, harbors views similar to your own, but is carefully neutral in the language he uses. The result is that his opinions may still be disregarded, but he is never repremanded for the way in which he presents them, and as Administrator here, I could reprimand him if I want to. " ...because I refuse to play psychological mind power games where someone is trying to control how and what I think. " No one is trying to control what or how you think. It's just that I have trained my administrative staff to consider the audience we have here. There are regular posters and there are infrequent ones, and there are also lurkers, some of whom may be lower functioning. Some only participate when they feel they have something VERY important to say. For this last group of people, just to post may be a considerable act of courage and what they post may still sound offensive in some ways. My goal is to let them have their forum regardless so that they may freely post if they want to. You have to understand my position as Administrator as opposed to " member " as I was on Edan's board. I have a healthy respect for Edan now because he had to allow people to post things even if they went directly against his own personal beliefs. As an admin, I have to do the same. This means that if we have two juxtaposed sides, both must be allowed their say, and the job of administration is to make sure that open or veiled insults stay out of it. " Where one person can state ideas of their own without others debating them if they feel they are wrong without immediate fear of being shot down by moderators is no place of discussion: it is merely a place for serial monologues by many people on differing ideas that don't overlap: it's just a bunch of people stepping up on a virtual soapbox with a large virtual audience that's captive and gagged from speaking their minds until they themselves are up on that same soapbox, with no opportunity to speak out on anything other than their own singular thoughts. " I can see how you would see it this way. However, this is not what's going on. No one is trying to gag you, and no one bears you a grudge. I don't, and it would be me who would make the decision to throw you out, which I am not going to do. Watch your e-mail. I am sending you a private message with something additional that I cannot write here. Tom Administrator Strict, if I see you picking on or any other member ever again, you'll be put on moderation permanently. It would be very nice to find you contribute something other than laughing at or stomping on people you disagree with. How about some support and understanding? Or something about yourself? You seem very angry these days, so I'm guessing you're not very happy? Do you want to talk about whatever is bothering you?
