how high is his viral load..that seems like such a short time to try it..most of us do a 12 week test to see where it is..I think anyway, I did..what about the combined interferon weekly shot and ribaviron...?? is this not a choice..geri

Hi, my son had his last biopsy 8 years ago and it was a stage three......it has been since he has been with us (1 and 1/2yrs) that i have been aggressive in getting him care. He just tried infergen and had to stop after 5 weeks because it did nothing to his viral load which is high. I have been trying to find some info on those born with it...once I read that they thought maybe they did better since their body always had it. Thanks for the information.elizabethnv1 <elizabethnv1@...> wrote: I know of a young girl , she was 16 on her last birthday and she was born with hep c . She started treatment in July and since then I have lost contact with her unfortunately . I myself had 4 children after I was diagnosed but they all tested negative for the virus . Has your adopted son had a biopsy ? Being born with hepatitis c has been proven to be more dangerous to the liver than acquiring it later in life . I hope he is keeping track of his viral load and having periodic biopsies Anyone out there born with Hepatitis C I am looking to talk with someone who has a child or is someone born with Hepatitis C. We have an adopted 19yo son who was born with it. Thanks

5 weeks is kinda short ...they usually keep a patient on infergen at least 12weeks . And then if there isnt a 2 log drop they take them off treatment , so 5 weeks is kinda too early for him to have been taken off . Sometimes it takes 12 weeks to show a response especially if he is a genotype 1 .

His viral load is 8million....this was his third try on some form of interferon...the others didnt work either...He was taken off at 4 weeks because there was absolutely no change and anger was getting out of control....I do have to say that one of the other times he tried interferon and ribaviran, he was taken off of because of low blood counts...that was when he was 14yo and he has not grown one inch since that time.....I think it stunted his growth.....I was not in his life at that timeus4heavenbound@... wrote: how high is his viral load..that seems like such a short time to try it..most of us do a 12 week test to see where it is..I think anyway, I did..what about the combined interferon weekly shot and ribaviron...?? is this not a choice..geri

well he was taken off also because he was having trouble controlling his anger.....so since the Dr. didnt see any change in his counts, she decided it was best to take him off...I agreed at the time for I feared he might hurt himself or someone else....he is much better now although now looking at life being uncured and possibly sick in the next several yearselizabethnv1 <elizabethnv1@...> wrote: 5 weeks is kinda short ...they usually keep a patient on infergen at least 12weeks . It sounds like he should have been on some kind of antidepressant (it helps with anger also ). Tell him not to give up hope , there are protease and capsase inhibitors that will be available within the next 3 yrs . As long as they pass and do well in the clinical trials . If you are in the US , you might want to look into getting him into a clinical trial .
