how high is his viral load..that seems like such a short time to try it..most of us do a 12 week test to see where it is..I think anyway, I did..what about the combined interferon weekly shot and ribaviron...?? is this not a choice..geri

Hi, my son had his last biopsy 8 years ago and it was a stage three......it has been since he has been with us (1 and 1/2yrs) that i have been aggressive in getting him care. He just tried infergen and had to stop after 5 weeks because it did nothing to his viral load which is high. I have been trying to find some info on those born with it...once I read that they thought maybe they did better since their body always had it. 5 weeks is kinda short ...they usually keep a patient on infergen at least 12weeks . And then if there isnt a 2 log drop they take them off treatment , so 5 weeks is kinda too early for him to have been taken off . Sometimes it takes 12 weeks to show a response especially if he is a genotype 1 .

It sounds like he should have been on some kind of antidepressant (it helps with anger also ). Tell him not to give up hope , there are protease and capsase inhibitors that will be available within the next 3 yrs . As long as they pass and do well in the clinical trials . If you are in the US , you might want to look into getting him into a clinical trial .
