Guest guest
What exactly is the GI specialist going to do? If my blood tests already show Hep C, 1b will I still have to have a liver biopsy? What does 1b mean? I surfed on the web & couldn't really find much about 1b. Any first hand knowledge is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Traci
Guest guest
Hi Traci Well the GI will do the biopsy and will help you decide if now is the time to do treatment or if you can wait for awhile. Ib is your genotype and unfortunately anything 1 is the hardest to treat, along with geno 4. In America, geno 1 is the most prevalent and I am also a geno 1 but a subtype. But I treated and cleared and am now SVR 3 years! YES, you DO need to have a biopsy as that is the only REAL way to tell IF you have any damage or not so that you can make that decision as to whether or not to start treatment now or wait for better medicines. With geno 1, your chance to reach SVR is 50/50.. and the treatment is hard, but doable. Welcome to the group, I hope you will find the help you are looking for.. and Besides, we are a GREAT group! hugs, jax moderatorTraci <traci@...> wrote: What exactly is the GI specialist going to do? Guest guest
Thank you for taking out the time to explain this to me. I have had ALL the symptoms of Hep C for at least 10 years. They just have gotten severe in the last 5 years. I had no idea any of the symptoms were related to a medical problem. I've just been putting on my " big girl panties & sucking it up! " Especially with the tiredness, lack of energy & depression. Thought those were all just side effects of being a recovering addict. My father passed away a few months ago, so the depression is worst. A routine physical for my DMV license revealed the blood test with the bad news. I am very much afraid of all of this & am mostly afraid that I do not have the energy to do what will be needed. Thank you again for the information Jackie - I truly appreciate it! > What exactly is the GI specialist going to do? If you treat and when you clear, you'll feel better than you have in 10 years! Good luck,
