Central Daylight TimeSubj: From Phyllis --Urgent-- Stories from Parents Needed For the Federal Bill S.2860!! Dear Advocates, YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED FOR THE FEDERAL BILL (Senate Bill 2860)! Senate leadership needs to hear that PBS Works for ALL Students!! In response to some very effective Hill work by JRC parents, Avoserv, Devereaux and others, there is a growing concern on Capital Hill that some students NEED restraint to prevent them from hurting themselves and others. To counteract this, please ask parents to tell their stories: Dear Parents, The Preventing Abusive Restraint and Seclusion Act in Schools is being threatened for passage in the Senate by parent testimony that claims restraint and seclusion or other aversive interventions were necessary for their children so they would no longer harm themselves or others. We need your help. Please do the following as soon as possible: Send your story to http://harkin.senate.gov/contact_opinion.cfm and to joe_caldwell@.... Copy your email to Galonsky pgalonsky@... at AUCD so he can compile them to share with all Senators. Title it "PBS Works for All Students" Describe your situation; including age of child; any description you care to share about child's behavioral challenges; restraint or seclusion experience; any injury or trauma as a result; and how positive approaches (such as attention to triggers for behavior, an understanding of child's needs and calming {de-escalation} strategies helped, etc. Please send your story SOON to speed bill passage! Our goal is 200 stories by May 24th!! Thanks very much! Regards, Phyllis Musumeci Families Against Restraint and Seclusion
