Traci.....As far as the bikini...I would love to do it one day, But I have to

be realistic and think that between skin and scarring I'm never going to be a

Bkini type. As I am losing, I don't worry about my scar as much as I worry

about the hanging skin. If my scar was all I had to worry about, I'd do a

bikini, as I figure with my other surgery it will lighten. My concerns are

flabby,

floppy skin. I never gave lap a concern, because what is so bad is my drain

holes look worse than my incision scar wise. I knew down deep that this was for

my health and the cosmetic was a 2nd plus to it. I figure if I have to settle

for a Tankini instead of a bikini it is worth it because I can breathe because

I don't feel like the fat surrounding my upper body is smothering me anymore.

First of all, a,

You dont have to give up the foods you love. You will have to go

easy at first and try different ones out, but you dont have to give

them up. That is the beauty of this surgery.

You will have to adjust your portions tho- and that takes time and

experience. (and lots of leftovers in the fridge) And you wondering

yet again, what was I thinking?

You will miss your huge portions, but then you realize, yes, I am

full, and I got to eat what I wanted and it is ok. Believe me, you

will learn/know when to stop, and find out real fast when one bite

is one to many. lol It happens, it is a trial and error to find

your way. But it is a great journey.

Now that said....IF YOU WENT ON YET ANOTHER DIET would you get to

eat all these things you are worried about missing? NO, you

wouldnt...then you would want them and go off your diet and be back

where you are right now.

You can still get your Chic a Fil combo- you wont be able to eat it

all, but you can eat it... You can go to Panchos buffet and fill up

your plate and eat a little of each that you took, much like your

skinny friends, and feel full and satisfied and go on. You must go

to s with us sometime and watch us DS'rs eat...especially that

Jo..lol

You will mourn being able to gulp things at first, but then after

several months you will be able to drink more and more...and be

satisfied.

You will be satisfied...amazing isnt it? Comfort food? weel it is

still there and you can eat it...and be satisfied.

Spagetti and meatballs, Go for it! Meatloaf- yep plenty of protien

there - we have it once a week. Mashed potatoes? they are soft and

you csn have them right away.

I am here to tell you that your tastes will change so you will crave

things differently than you do now, but you can have your cake and

eat it too....

Any questions??????

Wow, a we are A LOT ALIKE!

Those same thoughts scurried through my mind a hundred times. So, as I sit

here eating my whole microwave bag of Buttery Kettle Corn, I thought I

address your concerns....

I was so stressed out about never eating the things that are " good " so much,

I had probably two weeks worth of " last meals " . (Anyone else do this?) My

very last " last meal " before the two day " special diet " was a marinated

steak, barbequed, a baked potato with " the works " (butter, chive, cheese,

sour cream, bacon bits) and Fresh Asparagus. After that... at 11:55PM I

finished a pint of Baskin Robbins Chocolate Ice Cream.

Right after surgery I was so thirsty. I wanted to GULP! I am a gulper. I

love my water, with lots and lots of ice. But all I heard was " sip, sip,

sip " . I tried, no alleviation from the thirst. So... I took a good swallow

Not a gulp by any means, but a nice " bigger then sip " swallow. AHHHHH!

That was it! Ten minutes later I did the same thing. That's how I

alleviated the thirst.

Now, here I am... almost 18 month post op. I eat at the all you can eat

places still. Ramon's... My favorite mexican restaurant with the BEST tacos

and enchiladas and fajitas in the world. I get a combo meal, usually a

taco/enchilada, or I share fajitas with . Sometimes I even venture out

and get a SALAD!LOL I take a couple bits of rice, beans, and I eat the main

dish. I'm very satisfied...and yes, I even had chips and dip! I had the

rest of the plate to those at the table who feel they are still starving,

and of course the primates attack and finish it. God forbid there are " left

overs " on a plate I paid 7.00 for! LOL

Here's the dinner I had last night. DOMINOES! Yep! always order me

some wings, so I get at least SOME protein! I eat some wings and 1 piece of

pizza. Last night it was bacon with extra cheese. We order two pizzas,

wings and drinks for my family of five.

The night before last we had Salmon Steaks with a honey glaze. My steak was

huge, so I didn't eat much WATERMELON but I had some!

Tonight's dinner is Beef Stroganoff, homemade. It will be served with white

rice and extra sour cream. For sides we'll probably have a nice spring mix

salad and some cantaloupe.

For breakfast this morning I had two pieces of Wonder Light White bread,

soaked in 4 eggs (all the eggs were soaked up!) and FRENCH TOAST was for

breakfast! Lunch... hmmm.. oh yeah, Chicken A La king with white rice.

Though I'm WAAAY hot here in the high desert at 105, I picked out he chicken

had two bites of mushroom and rice, and handed it to the next person.

So...don't mourn food. You will get to eat your food again. Enjoy your

theatre buttered popcorn and a diet coke (some don't like the carbonation, I

ve never had a problem). You'll enjoy your pizza. The BEST part...you'll

feel satisfied. You'll learn a new way to eat, and enjoy your food. Heck

while I was healing from surgery, I watched the food network, everyone said

I was nuts. But that's what made me feel better.

Now, I have that piece of pizza, and watch everyone else eating 3 and 4

slices and thinking, " my God I'm full! " And I like it! I don't miss food..

I love to prepare and eat it!

Hope that helps my friend!

I so relate! I have been worrying a bit the last couple days too and

actually told my husband maybe it si too soon for me to go this route. But

my anxieties are two different ones now.

1) I really feel strongly about doing the DS, having only Dr. K do the

surgery, but want it laproscopicly, even if it is hand assisted. I know some

won't understand this, and may even call me petty for it, but my husband of

eight years has never seen me in a swiming suit, and I ahve never in my life

worn a bikini. We also never had a real honeymoon or have left the few

states around us. My dream is to go to Hawaii or Florida for our 10th

anniversary with our kids, and feel like I can wear a bikini, tasteful mind

you, with a skirt/sarong thing. No women in my family can do this, or ever

has, and its just some stron weird fantasy I have.

2) Am I going to be overly depressed with the skin problems after I lose? I

am 26, have had 3 kids, and know deep down I will look very bad. I want to

feel firmer and more my age! I am worried after seeing the plastic surgery

before and after pictures that I will be choppy looking and unnatural. So

then I start thinking maybe if I go for the cortizone shots in my spine it

will numb the hip and leg pain enough that I can work out or something.

Maybe I haven't tried enough? How do I know? This is probably my depression

just talking and in a day or two I will be manic again and self-assured.

I feel really dumb for saying it all, but just letting you know there are

others with doubts I guess.

Hey... You do not need to mourn those foods you think you aren't

going to be able to eat. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO EAT THEM! I can eat

EVERYTHING I ate preop... just less. And I feel like I am eating

more then I did preop cause now I know what FULL feels like!

I go to 's and at get a Double Classic and eat the whole thing.

I just take the top bun off. I could eat that bun, but then I

wouldn't have any room for some of the fries or be able to drink a

few sips of diet coke. <grin>

Everytime I fly through the atlanta airport i eat chik filet!!!

You might not be able to eat the spaghetti more then a few spoonfuls

for several months...but you WILL be able to eat it agian if you

want. Pasta was my FAVORITE food preop... now I dont eat it much at

all. I don't have a taste for it anymore. I like MEAT.

Anyway... I was like you and was really mourning the things I thought

I was going to be giving up. Truth is... you give them up the first

few months as your tummy adjusts. Then you slowly add them back in.

I deny myself NOTHING. I eat chocolate almost everyday. I eat

pizza.

I LOVE THIS SURGERY!!!! I don't miss my preop life, eating, habits,

AT ALL. I mourn NOTHING!!!! Except that I should have done this

surgery when I was 22!!

So snap out of it girlfriend. This is going to be the best thing you

have ever done for yourself :)

Traci,

I am not going to blow smoke your way and tell you everything will be

rosie and you will have the body like Carnie in her playboy

shoot..which mind you we KNOW were airbrushed. The reality is, we are

all going to loose, or have lost, a ton of weight in a very short

period of time and our bodies just do not adapt that fast...the

younger ones probably easier but still. I will say this tho, both of

my friends here (the two I've seen partially naked since their

surgeries)..one of whom had surgery with Dr. K had an open and you

can't even see her scar a year later. I wish I was that lucky. I had

my appenidix out 1.5 yrs ago and my scar is big and purple in color

still. Either way my scars will show when I have the DS for a time

and then will fade. It is independent to each person what you will

look like, and how you will heal, and how the your skin will cope

with these changes. I understand your desire for a lap..I want one

too, but if it means sacrificing my safety to have it..I'll take an

open please. If you have altered expectations, maybe you really

should think about this some more. We can't make the decision for you

but it is for your health that you need to do this more then

anything. We all want bodies like some of the stars...but mostly I

want to just live.

Several of my friends have had the surgery..all have had different

effects from the weight loss and all have lost over 100#s..some need

skin removal desperately, some have decided a little loose skin on

the tummy is ok. And so far none want to put on a bikini. But if you

want a body that will fit into a bikini..unless you are a real

lightweight or have really great skin..it will probably take surgery

to remove skin and plastic surgery to get you there. I hate to be the

one to say it but it is VERY important you realize what the outcomes

can be. I would hate to see you go through the surgery and come out

thinking you were robbed. Either way tho, you will be able to wear a

bathingsuit and a sarong and have your happy honeymoon. You will feel

so much better and be so much happier then had you not. Just listen

to all the people here..even those that had bumps in the road would

do it all over again. Take some time Traci, and really think about

what is most important to you. I am saying all this with the greatest

amount of love for you. Do it to save your life....All my love

through your hard time.

Katharine

ps..Im one of the lightweights here..I have somewhere between 85-95#s

to lose..and I expect I will have to have a TT and Breast

augmentation..right now I am 36, firm, and have modeled in the last

year as a plus size model..but I can see already that my body will

change and that is the price I will have to pay..to Save my life.

((((SHARON I LOVE YOU)))), thank you for the encouragement. I can't

believe that I honestly have been feeling this way about food. You

don't really think about how ones relationship with food has been so

damaging until, a life changing event (such as the DS surgery)makes

you realize. And I can only imagine through all of you POST OPs eyes!

So I HONESTLY appreciate the response and having me understand the

REALITY of it. And knowing that what I am feeling right now is okay.

At the meeting Tuesday in August, do you all go out to eat that

night. I (and my boyfriend) would love to come if you all do go out.

(()))...I am feeling comforted already by all you guys post

about this subject. I am sooo happy that you all can relate to me.

And there you go, , having my stomach growl this early inthe

morning talking about POPCORN! YUM! I am not much of a breakfast

person so that is why I am already hungry. So you can actually get

full off of one slice of Pizza? I normally order my Pizza a special

way (which forces my boyfriend to order his own pizza)..I like it

thin, only pepperoni, extra sauce..and here is the kicker..I LIKE IT

BURNT..EXTREMELY WELL DONE! So I guess there is no since of ordering

my specialness for one slice. Gurl I can tear up some Pizza like you

just don't know! Let me stop. I am going to laugh at myself and just

be tickled pink if I can actually become full after 1 or 2 slices. I

will hug myself..hehe! Will you be at the support meeting in August?

> ((((SHARON I LOVE YOU)))), thank you for the encouragement. I

can't believe that I honestly have been feeling this way about food.

You don't really think about how ones relationship with food has

been so damaging until, a life changing event (such as the DS

surgery)makes you realize. And I can only imagine through all of you

POST OPs eyes!

> So I HONESTLY appreciate the response and having me understand the

I believe most of us feel that way about food, or did anyways. We

all come to realize that this love/hate relationship with food has

affected us all so deeply that we have to rearrange our bodies

forever to have a " normal " life. It is strange sometimes when I do

realize that my body is changed forever. My insides are all

rerouted. But then when you look at the outside...well it has

changed too! And for the better, and it will never go back to what

it was before! And I am extremely grateful to God and Dr. K for

that.

As Dr. K always says ...He can fix our bodies, but not our minds.

And yes, we do meet before the meeting. We meet at s, a little

Mexican food restaurant in Delano, anywhere from 3:30-5:00 you will

find some of us there, we push tables together and take up most of

the restaurant. And all are welcome.

Kym, gurlfriend you have me SNAPPING..because once you said you can

eat some Chic Fil A, I knew everything was going to be okay (hehehe).

Goodness, I love you guys because there is NO WAY IN HELL I would

have been able to open up like this to my skinny friends. Even when I

tell my boyfriend, he just laughs and doesn't understand that I am

serious as hell. Matter of fact, we argue because he hates Panchos

Buffet and I LOVE IT. So I told him to buck up because we are going

to have to go there a couple of more times before my surgery because

afterwards we will hardlyt be there. He complains because he doesn't

want to go with me now but I said, just tought it out for a couple

more weeks..hehe! Gurl I need to get it out of my system....thanks

for sharing with me Kym! Will you be at the support meeting in

Vicki,

I am soo happy for you. It will be here before you know it. If I

don't come up with the rest of my program fee (only have $850 now)by

my August 13th, I might have to give it up and if this happens, and

if you want to move up...I will give it to you. I should find out in

the next couple of weeks or so because it is coming down to the wire.

I am sure you would like an earlier date if you aren't an out of

towner (I am, I live in Houston TX). Yes I heard Dr. Z is also fab.

We are in good hands

I didnt mind my surgery being open, as I had heard so many others

who had the open say when the Dr. was in there he found something

else and fixed it. Like tumors, Mekels divitrium (sp), and even

cancer. So this surgery saved their lives in more ways than one.

These were found and taken care of before they became life

threatening. So I wanted Dr K in there and looking around to make

sure all was well.

As for the scar, heck, I am proud of mine and will show anyone who

asks to see it....and even a few to dont want to... Well, Kristy,

you did ask to see it...you did...

Now, if you want to see scars, you should see my ps scars...they

will really get you going!lol I will show those too...

But remember, I am shy...lol

It is still broken! But nobody has said anything about stringing me

And besides, My way of thinking (which is always a bit out there),

If you aded up all those little lap scars together (in inches), it

would equal my one big one. So it really didnt make that much

difference to me. And the one who posted that you could start out

lap, and end up open is right. Dr K will tell you that when you

request lap.

Just my thoughts...

Hey Sharon, I am the one who said it normally starts out lap and ends

up open. I don't want anything to go wrong and with the DS it is more

common with open from what I heard...so if I have a lil scar so be

it, hopefully it will blend withthe rest of my stretch marks. Luckily

this is my first surgery in the stomach region so there won't be ANY

scar tissue and I think I have pretty good skin..but my health comes

first...so if it leaves a scar then so be it but I know I am going to

look good in regular clothes..hehe...yeah! And yes I want to see the

SCAR pictures

Thanks you guys. Guess I was having momentary fears, I know they aren't that

valid, and I know this is the right thing for me. I am extremely excited,

just worry that I am too excited and might make a bad decision somewhere. I

always seem to screw things up somehow...

I will focus in the Health though, thanks again!

Hi a! I love thin crust too! I am 8 weeks post-op and we had

pizza for a meeting at work and it was regular crust. I ate half of a

slice and the topping off the rest of the slice..hehe..I'm sure in a

thin crust I could probably eat two slices. I tell ya, it is amazing

that I could get full off ONE slice of pizza when before it would be

more like 4 or 5 WITH a coke or two!

a,

I too am a Mexican food fanatic. I think it's my absolute favorite.

Just set a big bowl of chips and salsa in front of me and I'm a happy

girl! Anyhoo, I had surgery on March 19th, and let me tell you.. for

the first 6 weeks I hated my family. They would go out and bring

food back to eat so I wouldn't be alone. I would sit there with my

soup or mashed potatoes or cottage cheese, and watch them eat big

stuffed heavenly smelling burritos and I just wanted to yell at

them!!! When I was finally able to eat more normal foods and a

different variety, I got over my anger. It's still hard to go out

sometimes for dinner cause I still have SO much food left on my plate

and all I want to do is eat more, eventhough I'm full and I don't

NEED more. Hehe, it's SO not a question of need. It totally gets

better though.. Plus once you see the weight coming off.. well that's

the best. I don't think there is anything I haven't tried eating

now. The other day I had a half of a piece of pizza (cause I was at

a friends house and that's all they had). That was the first time I

tried pizza.. thus the reason why I only had half of it, I wanted to

make sure it wouldn't make me sick.. oh plus all the toppings from

the rest of the piece. Anyway.. it's really trial and error.

Everything might agree with you.. or there may be some things you

need to stay away from. Sometimes I almost wish some foods didn't

agree with me. :-) Our good friend, Food, will just have to take the

backseat, while your life changes drastically after the surgery. You

will find SO many other things to fill the void that it has left.

One of the most POSITIVE things that has come out of having surgery

for me is that I have lost most of my feelings of guilt when it comes

to food. That is an amazing thing.

Good Luck!!! It's ALL worth it!

Oh and P.S. From the time of my original consult in December till my

surgery on March 19th.. I gained about 11 lbs from last meals.. Heh

so try NOT to get too stuck on those! :-)
