Hey Joyce!

Congratulations! You go girl!!! My

doctor told me to continue normally and to eat a piece a meat a week at least

to keep my counts up. I know some will cringe at this, but I was not

cirrhotic. Probably differently if cirrhotic. I did drink coffee, we are told

not to. The thing with caffeine is that you have to drink double the water

then because caffeine dehydrates. I did color my hair.

Keep it up, kick dragon butt!!!

First injection under my belt!!!

Hi all,

I was able to administer my own injection today. It's amazing how we can

do things when we have to, that we thought we could never do. It was given at

3:45 and we just got home from having dinner. I am on my way upstairs to

pile on the blankets and watch a little TV land before I crash for the night.

Good news: My Dr said I coud eat anything that my tummy wanted or could

tolerate. I had read not to eat red meat, but she says I can.

Anyone been told differently? And I forgot to ask her two questions so I

will try them here and see what you all think.

1) Am I to stay away from caffiene?

2). Am I allowed to color or highlight my hair while on treatments?

She had me go to the lab and draw blood to check my viral load again, and my

ferritin (sp) level, among other things.

Thanks,

Joyce \o/

Better answers are probably on thier way, if not already posted, but my doctor doesn't say no caffiene, but she said don't drink coffee. Tea has more caffiene than coffee, and she says I can drink tea, so I'm assuming caffiene is not a problem. As for coloring your hair, hair is dead tissue, but your scalp is not. I would guess there are some pretty nasty things in hair coloring. Besides, I bet your natural color is lovely. We are always most critical of ourselves. Good luck with your therapy! Eat well, sleep well, be well! ChrisJoyceK <joycedkeith@...> wrote: Hi all,I was able to administer my own injection today. It's amazing how we can do things when we have to, that we thought we

Hi Kathy NO, YOU need some beef when on tx, UNLESS your liver is decompensated,, your diet must be protein based,, or thats what they told me and it worked for me,, Kathy <palms112@...> wrote: Hey Joyce! Hi Joyce NO, according to the RN at Scherring, you MUST eat a protein based diet unless you are decompensated,,your liver needs the protein to recover,, now that doesnt mean it has to be fatty steak all the time either. You can eat eggs, tofu, cheese, soy, chicken, fish, etc,, but they told me 2 things were important,, I followed it and I cleared with geno 1a and stage 3-4 of damage and was only given 10-15% chance of even responding to treatment let alone reaching SVR,, I DID BOTH.. but what she said was 1. eat a protein based diet, it helps with nausea 2. take your Riba with some small amount of fat such as peanut butter, cheese, cream cheese etc,, 3, I forgot 3,, drink that gallon of water EACH and EVERY day!JoyceK <joycedkeith@...> wrote: Hi all,I

Way to go Joyce....!! My husbands Liver Specialist doesn't limit his caffeine intake, I do....lol...He can have his tea in the afternoon and his two cups of coffee, but he drinks alot of juices, non-caffeineated drinks. They have never said anyhting about red meat or iron intake and he has 4th stage cirr. I think it's just a matter of not overdoing things. He has troubles with his tastes, alot of things taste metallic, so on occcasion he uses plastic utensils and I cook with a bit more ( spices), not spicey foods, just a little pick up in the foods. Good job on the needle giving....my thoughts are with you today. JoyceK <joycedkeith@...> wrote: Hi all,I was able to administer my own injection today. It's

Hi Joyce,Okie doke to answer some of your questions. The red meat, yeah you can have it. Not a problem there. In fact while you are on treatment it is suggested that you eat a protein enriched diet. I did eat alot of chicken and fish. But that is what appealed to me. But my neighbor across the steak can grill a steak to perfection, and well, they are tasty!! Who could resist? Not me.Caffine, mmmm girl I could not get started in the morning if it wasn't for my 2 cups of coffee. It is my kick start!! LOLBut I do and did drink alot of Green Tea, it is high in antioxidants and I found when I drank it I actually felt better. I don't know if it was the placebo effect, knowing that I was getting all those good anti-oxidents or not. But it worked for me. Especially if I was feeling icky. I drank it iced or hot. Now on to the hair color. They tell you not to color your hair on treatment. Because hair color tends to dry out the hair. And it goes (hair) through some changes while on treatment anyway. But being the vain and image concious person I am (See I admit it, I am vain lord yes). I colored my hair, but I used good conditioners too. And not that stuff you get at Wal-mart. Go to a salon and get the good stuff ( tea tree oil or biologe deep conditioner). Just remember your hair might thin during treatment but this is normal. Mine did. And I had one bald spot but it was no biggie. About the size of the end of my pinkie. Use a brush that doesn't tug on the hair. And remember to drink your fluids, water, juices and so forth. Hi Tami

Just in defense of the group moderator, I moderate a news group

and I know for a fact just how time consuming it can be. I think

this moderator does a wonderful job -- and I think she's entitled

to a life of her own too :) Please be patient, maybe she has a

family event going on, or is scrubbing walls, or who knows. But

we really can't expect her to sit at her computer all day long

and just wait for us to post so she can immediately process the

submissions the very minute we send them.

She does a very good job of getting things posted in a timely

manner.
