Poor behavior before a episode

Hi! We haven't posted much, but read messages often. My son is 6 and

was diagnosed w/ about 3 years ago. My husband and I have

always noticed his behavior was always worse before an episode. While

our son is no angel, his behvior before a fever is off the chart. Has

anyone else experienced this? Our doctor said it could be related to

his white count before a fever or just conincedental, there has not

really been any research on behavior w/ . Just wondering.

Thanks,

Yes my son has some behavior issues before a

fever as well. He is no Angel as well but before a

fever he gets a little meaner and seems more

emotional. Dose any one else child do this as well!

Thanks Dawn Mom to & Nikki

We notice a difference in Ella's behavior about a day before a fever

episode. She gets VERY cranky and VERY clingy. She whines a lot

and is rather irrational (typical 2 year old behavior, just

magnified). There have been several days when my husband has

said " She's going to get her fever either today or tomorrow " because

her behavior is so rotten, and sure enough, she'll start a fever

within about 24 hours.

WOW! I am so thankful for this group! (Fran - if you didn't receive my

personal thank you a few weeks ago, then THANK YOU again!) I noticed, ,

that you rec'd a few responses to your note below, confirming what we also see

w/ our son Joe. He is 33 months old w/ and prior to his March and April

fever episodes, he had major " meltdowns " , a crying/sobbing session that just

wouldn't stop. Yes, we thought it was the terrible 2's but now remembering that

the fever came on in less than 48 hours from those sessions, maybe it is

-related as well.

Does anyone know what aches/pains/mouth sores/etc. may be occurring just prior

to the cycle? My son doesn't communicate well enough to tell me what he's

feeling so maybe some of the parents w/ older children w/ could shed some

light on this.

Also, I've attached a one-page summary of that I rec'd from a nurse at

Vanderbilt. It's a quick overview that explains the syndrome briefly and easily

such that you could share it w/ family and friends that are not informed on

.

Thanks,

My son gets this way as well. Very clingy and whinny. Also he sleeps very

poorly before an epidose too with night terrors. I thought it was interesting

someone else metioned that as well.

's behavior for 2-3 days before a fever is also unbelievable! The

littlest things set him off. It's like walking through a mine field!

Constant " meltdowns " . A couple episodes where this precursor to his fever

lasted longer than normal - as bazaar as it seems - I can remember wishing

the fever would just start already. He has been on cimetidine since early

March and hasn't had a fever since starting. He does seem to go through

2-3 day periods where he has this extreme irritability.

This is one of Evan's precursors to a fever as well. Usually 2-3

days before an episode he will throw some type of kicking screaming

uncontrollable tantrum, as well as be constantly thirsty. These are

two signs I always look for.
