Guest guest
Lia, I must admit my knowledge of RAD is somewhat limited, and is limited to the few articles I have read on RAD. However, since most of us believe that autism is caused by environmental factors (most notably mercury toxicity), why must autism (mercury toxicity) be ruled out for a RAD dx? I would think that it would be very reasonable to believe that the conditions can co-exist. I know a couple who have 4 biological boys who all have sprectrumish issues to varying degrees, and the parents have/are chelating all 4 of the boys with great success. They then adopted an 8 month old girl from China, and decided to do biomed testing on her for toxic metals. She tested very high in many metals due to the vaccines she was required to receive, as well as the environmental pollution in the region of China she was from. The parents also are doing biomed treatments with her even though she had not presented with any of the typical autism manifestations. > > Yes... in the DMSIV...it must rule out autism to be RAD... we have many > families on my case load.. Guest guest
hi.. RAD.. is an attachment issue where the child does not bond to the primary caregiver. Example.. many cases ... drug addict mom or any other dysfunctional mom... spends her time... doing HER thing.. baby cries... cries.. MOM does not respond. Baby cries and then maybe mom.. may feed or change dirty diaper or console.. it is INCONSISTENT. Baby's brain does not get developed in the area of bonding to mom or primary caregiver. Baby learns NOT TO TRUST and believes... "I must be bad".. The core belief of a RAD child is.. I am unloveable. BABY.. grows.. and attachment to mom to learn to trust develops in the first 3 to 5 years. BABY has a mom.. whether drug addict or mentally ill or very young... who may have moved hundreds of times.. where the needs are not consistent. Bottom line.. baby begins to believe mom is bad. "I don't trust her".. and the core belief still is.. "I am unloveable.. after all.. mom didn't love me"... When child gets taken away... Child is placed in adoptive home. Child sees adoptive mom as bad.. "I don't trust her".. "why should I?" Criteria for a RAD child.. some are.. stealing and hording food.. lying.. superficially charming in school and with strangers. THEREfore.. when a child is fantastic in school.. and creating hell at home.. the adoptive mom comes off as being seen as nuts by professionals.. because little darling at school and community charm their way. BUT at home.. adoptive mom is evil. And it is tough for adoptive mom to figure this out.. UNLESS she understands RAD. RAD child will sabotage good times at home.. break toys, steal food, and items.. money and basically the feeling with them is.. "I don't deserve a good time.. I am unlovable". Living with a RAD kid is basically hell... they are not likeable children in the home. Many adoptive parents un adopt them. RAD turns into conduct disorder and later anti social behavior. many criminals have attachment issues. I am fortunate to work with teams at my job who specialize in RAD.. I have a friend who adopted a 9 year old boy 10 years ago.. sexually abused so bad it was a nightmare... she knew nothing about RAD.. she spent years researching and finally began to learn how to have him attach which at that age it may be too late. She wrote a book with one of my team mates.. who used to be HER TSS with the boy.. for two years he worked with them in their home 40 hours a week.. HE learned from HER about RAD... together they wrote a book on therapy. You will know a RAD child when you see him/her. They are not autistic.. not even close.. these children speak and socialize. They lie.. steal... deny... sabotage, destroy and cause hell at home. DAILY... ATTACHEMNT is difficult .. it is different way of parenting.. punishment is forbidden.. love and logic series.. by Jim FAy and Dr. CLINE.. works well.. Bonding therapy is also good. AND it must be by the Adoptive mom.. NO ONE ELSE. IT is between adoptive mom and RAD kid and of course the RAD therapist. That is why .. in ophanages... those babies. are left in the crib.. with minimal bonding time... they are alone in their cribs for hours... Romania.. Russia... ect.. IT IS CRUCIAL for the human brain to bond immediately with mom... and be consistent ... this is how we attach later to other relationships.. we LEARN from bonding to the human mother. RAD children grow up to be adults that can't form relationships. They lack empathy and remorse. AND... RAD children can not just be adoptive.. they can stay in their bio homes.. it can even happen in utero. ANyone interested.. there are great websites on RAD... peace, Lia
Guest guest
hi.. it says so in the DSMIV.. that is what is written under the criteria. I will ask that specific question to my RAD expert therapists.. Lia
Guest guest
If I were to guess why is this.. the core symptoms of autism.. is the language and social skills. These are not the core criteria for RAD. I never met a RAD kid who had developmental delays. IT is about ATTACHMENT. I know many children with autism that are bonded. They are just too busy fending off overload most of the time and don't appear as so. It is crucial... that when you dx a child.. you must have early maternal history... and development history. Guest guest
If Lia doesn't mind, I'll jump in on this one. I can see where you are going with this and I'll try to explain it. I can agree that the third world countries have a high rate of mercury poisoning now, and that includes China and Ukraine (hello? Chernobyl?), BUT Reactive Attachment Disorder is not diagnosed in a child who spent less than a year in an orphanage. It is generally diagnosed in children who have spent at least 3 years in an orphanage along with neglect, abuse and post traumatic stress disorders. While many children who are adopted do not have RAD, just perhaps attachment disorder itself, the ones who do have RAD tend to be older, and tend to have suffered more. RAD is not a diagnosis that therapists quickly place on an adopted child. Autism needs to be ruled out just as a whole list of other diagnoses before RAD can be placed, due to the rarity of it and due to the causes behind it. RAD children are not born that way, nor it is caused by mercury poisoning. It is pretty much exclusively directly linked to the how the child is raised and the environment (meaning the home) that he/she is raised in. > > > > Yes... in the DMSIV...it must rule out autism to be RAD... we have > many > > families on my case load.. Guest guest
hi.. yes.. it is very sad.. I had a family and my partner and I worked hard with them.. their lawyer against CYS... and along with MH/MR.. we helped the family place the two adopted children in a RAD foster therapuetic home. CYS made this family out to be horrible. The family accused CYS... of not telling them about attachment issues. EVENTUALLY,, they un adopted them. YOU would not believe.. however.. how many children with ASD are being dx with mood disorder NOS, and depressive disorder.. and severe ADHD and on the AXIX IV.. issues with parent /child concerns... I found when I do my intake...once we receive a family , I must observe the child... and LISTEN to the parent.. ask questions about developement.. speech.. social skills... playing with others..ect...I find many out there to be mis dx by some idiot of a psychologist. I also ask if they were vaccinated and if they noticed any change after the vaccines. I also have kids who are properly dx with ASD and not being given services because mom and dad are sooo dysfunctional or just plain stupid... and "why does he act that way?"duh... but I find many are soo into their own issues.. they have no time for the ASD child and that is a crime. peace... Guest guest
Sally and Lia, Thanks for your explanations about RAD. You both described it very much as I had thought it to be. I understand the need to be extremely careful to rule out autism first, but I still believe that it is possible for a child with RAD to be afflicted to some varying degrees with heavy metal toxicities - whether the poisoning is manifestating itself as autism symptoms or not. But then I tend to believe we all are toxic dumps for heavy metal toxicities – just to varying degrees. There are two parents with kids with RAD on a parent state special needs group that I am on, and they have both posted about the hell that they have gone through with these kids. Both have older kids in the teenage years, and the kids have wreaked havoc on their families. Both parents are trying to unadopt these kids, as both kids have spent significant amounts of time in mental facilities, and have been in trouble with the law. From what I have read of their postings, it is almost virtually impossible to force the state to take guardianship of the kids once the parents have had them for an extended period of time, and the families have faced the risk of having their other children removed from the home in the process. It all sounds very, very sad. > > > > > > Yes... in the DMSIV...it must rule out autism to be RAD... we > have > > many > > > families on my case load.. Guest guest
Right.. sally.. RAD is about attachment... the part in the brain did not learn to bond and trust through.. love, stroking.. hugging. rocking.. being fed.. loved.. by mom or primary caregiver... that part of the brain needs to stimulated... that is how humans learn to bond... take away the mercury.. RAD remains... peace, Lia
Guest guest
Oh yeah I agree, you can have RAD and mercury toxicity, just as you have any diagnosis and still have the mercury toxicity. But with these kids once you remove the toxins, the RAD remains; whereas with vaccine-induced autism, you remove the toxins and the autism disapates. > > > > > > > > Yes... in the DMSIV...it must rule out autism to be RAD... we > > have > > > many > > > > families on my case load..
